Rivian, the car brand with the catchphrase “electric adventure vehicles” is making big moves in the automotive world. While the
Rivian R1S
, an electric SUV made for all terrains, was an impressive adventuring car, the Rivian R1T might just have the SUV beat.
The Rivian R1T is a truck built for anything, and it’s all electric. Both the 2021 and 2022 Rivian R1T are great options for drivers with a sense of wanderlust looking to

The 2021 Rivian R1T

Before jumping into the newest model of the Rivian R1T, let’s talk about last year’s model, which is just as impressive, being among the first all-electric pickup trucks on the market.
Starting at a price of $69,000, this vehicle can be considered luxury, especially considering the comfortable seats, fancy digital controls, and dual digital screens (one behind the wheel, one in between the driver and front passenger seats).
The 2021 Rivian R1T is powered by four electric motors, one at each wheel. Combined, the four motors can produce up to 750 hp and 829 lb-ft of torque, and, according to
Rivian
, the car can reach 60 mph in just three seconds. There are three different battery packs available, with ranges from 230 to 400 miles.
While the pickup truck has a double cab and a bed, those are really the only two pickup truck features on the vehicle. It has stadium-shaped headlights, and the truck finds innovative ways to create storage, like in the front where a gas engine would be and a hidden compartment between the rear seats and bed.
But, what truly makes the 2021 Rivian R1T great for adventuring and offroading is its towing capacity of 11,000 pounds, three feet of water fording abilities and remarkable 14.1 inches of ground clearance.

The 2022 Rivian R1T

The 2022 Rivian R1T has a lot of the same features we know and love on the 2021 Rivian R1T.
Like last year’s model, the 2022 R1T has 11,000 pounds of towing capacity, elevated ground clearance, and just as much capability to drive through water. Plus, those unique pickup truck characteristics like the hidden storage compartment are still present.
While the 2022 model does still have four electric motors, one behind each wheel, the power and range have increased in this year's model. Now, the four motors reach a combined 800+ hp and 900 lb-ft of torque. The range has increased on the standard battery pack to 314 miles, and the acceleration from 0 to 60 mph has stayed at an impressive three seconds flat.
The base model of the 2022 Rivian R1T, Explore, with a standard battery pack starts at $79,500. Along with the extra power and range, for the additional money the interior has been updated quality interior, and you’ll also get a 16-inch touchscreen, with a smaller screen on the side for the driver.
