.As proof, the Fiat New 500 EV has just won City Car of the Year at the 2022 GQ Car Awards—taking its total awards tally up to 25! While we don’t begrudge Fiat any success, seeing the New 500 rack up so many accolades is a bit galling for Americans because it isn’t available in the U.S. yet.

The New 500 is Fiat’s second-generation EV, after the 500e. The Fiat 500e was sold in California and Oregon from 2013 to 2019, but with a top range of just 70 miles, it has since been discontinued.
It’s manufactured at the home of Fiat in Turin. Looking like a modern, rounder Cinquecento, it comes equipped with an 87 kW electric motor (116 horsepower) and a 42 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This Fiat EV boasts a top range of 199 miles, which increases to 249 in the city. That’s the longest range of any electric city car!

Why do critics like Fiat’s new electric car?
Lifestyle gurus GQ praised the New 500’s chic design and effortless performance. Paul Henderson, Editor at GQ magazine, called it “cute, chic, cheap, charming, clever, cool,” and continued, “If there is more fun to be had zipping around town, we haven’t found it.”
Winning City Car of the Year at the GQ Car Awards is a big deal, but it's not the Fiat New 500’s first award. It was named the Best Small Electric Car at the 2022 What Car? of the Year Awards, and Small Electric Vehicle of the Year by Company Car Today. In total, the New 500 has 25 awards to its name.
Sales are currently restricted to Europe, but let’s hope we see them cruising around Manhattan before too long.
