How does the Tesmat work?
A Tesmat is a portable twin-size mattress that's custom-fitted to fit inside a Model Y or Model 3. It was likely developed to complement "Camper Mode", an update that Tesla rolled out in 2019.
Camper Mode is designed to maintain airflow and climate control settings while using less power. You can even keep the batteries on your devices charged and keep the interior lights on. This makes your Tesla a comfortable tent any time of day in both warm and cold weather.
After you fold down the seats, the Tesmat stretches across them and the cargo area. It's made up of three memory foam cushions that can be stacked and folded for easy storage.
These cushions squish down to fit snugly into the storage case, which is secured by a magnetic clasp. The case is weatherproof and insulated, so you can store drinks inside while you're using the mattress.
The case fits inside the trunk with plenty of room to spare. Tesmat sheets and a privacy curtain can be purchased either separately or as a bundle deal.
It's cheaper than the competition
The included support pads can either be used as couch arms or pillows. When the mattress is out, the storage bag is inserted under the mattress to keep the resting area flat.
One travel pillow is included, and Dreamcase sheets cost extra. However, before any international shipping fees, the Dreamcase retails for $700. In contrast, both Tesmats only cost $269 each.
Is a Tesmat worth the price?
Considering the alternative, the Tesmat is a pretty good deal for what you get. It might be smaller than the Dreamcase, but it's easier to store.
We also appreciate that the storage case has multiple uses. Additionally, even though the measurements don't quite match up, you can still fit the mattress inside the Model X.
Some reviews complain that the Tesmat is too thin and not ideal for larger adults. Still, the majority of buyers say it's easy to set up and provides a good night's rest.
Never go camping without insuring your Tesla
If you're planning to take your Tesla out into the wilderness, it needs to have good insurance. While the Model Y has different drive modes for off-roading and snow, it can still get damaged easily.
