Bentley announced record sales in 2021, and has been celebrating several other milestones, including its custom design team surpassing 1,000 projects.
One area where the luxury carmaker is lagging behind is
electric vehicles
(unless you count electric Bentleys for kids!). But pressure from government legislation and motoring trends have convinced Bentley to change this.
The British company has just announced its first EV will enter production in 2025, and it will phase out combustion engines completely by 2030. Read on to learn more.

The first electric Bentley

Bentley’s accelerated strategy is called the “Five-in-Five” plan. The company will release one new electric vehicle every year from 2025, by which time the entire line-up will be electric. So what do we know about the first electric Bentley? Nothing! The carmaker has only said it will be built in its UK plant, with more information coming this summer.
If you can’t wait that long, Bentley’s Flying Spur and Bentayga models are already available with hybrid powertrains.

Switching to EVs is a big deal for Bentley

Bentley, along with fellow British automakers Aston Martin and Rolls Royce, were slow to embrace electrification, nervous that their brand identities would suffer. However, looming fossil-fuel car bans in the EU and several U.S. states, have prompted them all to announce the switch to EVs.
The company has also been encouraged by record-breaking sales. As reported by
U.S. News
, the company enjoyed a 31% increase in global sales last year. It has also committed to investing over $3 billion in sustainability over the next 10 years. What that means, and what the first Bentley EV will look like, remains to be seen, but we can’t wait for the unveiling.
