Jeep’s charging stations are isolated
The charging stations can be used by any EV, but only Jeeps can use them for free. Also notable is that Jeep chargers will only be available at 18 trail locations for now—not in other, more urban areas. Jeep users will face another setback when charging: these Jeep charging stations will only feature Level 2 charging speeds.
Rivian’s Adventure Network is more advanced than Jeep’s charging stations
Compared to the 18 Jeep charging stations available across the U.S., Rivian plans on an expected 3,500 Level 3 fast-chargers across 600 North American locations. These charging stations will compose what is known as the Adventure Network.
Like Jeep’s charging stations, Rivian also wants to install charging spots along popular trails and off-roading areas, they’ll just have a lot more of them—at least for the time being. One of the best things about Rivian’s Adventure Network is that their chargers run on 100% renewable energy and all deliver a charging output of around 200 kW.
The Rivian fast-chargers will be exclusively for Rivian owners, but slower Level 2 chargers will also be broadly available for other cars.
Why aren’t Jeep’s charging stations spread out across the country?
Right now, both Jeep and Rivian are really the only EV makers who are focusing on placing charging stations in off-roading areas. But Rivian is exclusively an EV company, whereas Jeep has only just started making them, and with a plug-in hybrid, at that.
