Audi’s
vehicles have always been head-turners. As one of the world’s top luxury brands, they never short themselves on style. But every car brand in the industry now has to consider how they’re going to mass produce EV models—and it’s Audi’s turn to step up to bat. That’s why they’ve recently debuted a new vehicle, and it’s…a minivan? While Audi may be releasing surprising new concepts, you shouldn’t be caught off guard by confusing car insurance policies. Read on to learn how Jerry
helps you find the most affordable rates, plain and simple. The Audi Urban Sphere: an electric vehicle with daring design
Okay, so you probably weren’t expecting Audi’s next concept car to look like something you could drop the kids off to soccer practice in. But the Audi Urban Sphere isn’t just a minivan—it’s been touted as something of an electric, rolling lounge. And judging by the interior, the Urban Sphere can definitely support some lounging.
According to Green Car Reports
, the Urban Sphere is part of Audi’s initiative (along with the rest of the industry) to start rethinking personal vehicle use. The Urban Sphere is quite large for a van, at 217 inches long, with a 134.4-inch wheelbase. Audi’s new electric vehicle is loaded with features
Most modern vehicles have infotainment systems with touch-screen displays that allow the driver to access and view their car’s media playback features, rearview cameras, and more. The Audi Urbansphere, though, has two rows of infotainment screens, meaning that those in the rear of the vehicle are in luck.
These front and back row screens are complemented by a see-through, folding OLED screen that can be used for video calls, watching movies, music, and more.
The Audi Urban Sphere also has more power than your average minivan. Like most electric vehicles, it outguns its ICE counterparts considerably, pumping out 395-hp and 508 lb-ft of torque, which is unheard of for a van. Also interesting is the Audi Urban Sphere’s all-wheel-drive powertrain and fast-charging capabilities.
Will Audi start production on their latest electric vehicle?
It’s uncertain whether Audi plans to actually start producing the Urban Sphere, but we can only hope. As with many other carmakers, Audi is experimenting with 800-volt charging architectures, as featured in the Urban Sphere. As opposed to the current 400-volt system, 800-volts is far faster and offers a more responsive driving experience—imagine charging your EV to 80% in under 30 minutes!
The Sphere lineup is composed of the Urban Sphere, the Skysphere sports car concept, and the Grandsphere
, which boldly displays what could be the future of large sedans in an autonomous driving world. It’s doubtful that Audi would scrap these models completely—so it’s more likely that we can take some hints from these three electric vehicles and get a glimpse at what some of Audi’s soon-to-be models
will look like. Find insurance for your Audi by using the Jerry App
