According to
CNBC
, the Audi Grandsphere was unveiled online as the second concept car in their line of three “sphere” vehicles. The Grandsphere is less like the Batmobile and more like a vehicle that Bruce Wayne would drive: clean and fit for a billionaire, dazzling anyone who comes across it.
The Gransphere looks less sinister and sharp, instead appearing softer and more luxurious. It looks truly grand.
The concept shows an interior designed to be able to transform into a first class lounge.
This transformation would take place when the car is in self-driving mode. A steering column would stow away so the driver and front passenger get more space and comfort.
While in self-driving mode, there would be no obvious screens in the cabin.
Instead, anything typically covered by an infotainment system would be projected onto the Grandsphere’s wooden instrument panel, right under the windshield.
Audi’s plans for electrification
The eccentric design is probably related to how during the car’s unveiling, the head of Audi, Henrik Wenders, said, “Thanks to digitalization, it’s about experiences—personal, immersive, and entirely human-centric.”
It’s quite interesting that Audi claims to want the electrification of cars to be wholly human-centric. Ironic, but definitely an exciting goal, one that we hope to see realized.
Being a concept car, some of the car’s debut was crafted from computer-generated images. But Audi insists the vehicle is reliably converted to real life, not just a complicated concept.
This concept car pivots to both electric and autonomous vehicles, which are considered to be the future of the automotive industry.
The Grandsphere should fit right at home with the next decade of upcoming cars.
We don’t know the exact details and specs yet, but they should be quite impressive if Audi wants to be at the forefront of car buyers’ minds.
The Volkswagen-owned brand already announced plans to exclusively offer EVs by 2033. The brand will no longer produce gas-powered engines after the last one in 2026.
