Slowly but surely, the EV takeover at
Honda
seems to be underway. Recently, the automaker turned heads, giving a tantalizing look at the 2024 Honda Prologue, an electric SUV with attitude. Developed alongside GM, the 2024 Prologue seems to promise that Honda knows how to make EVs that are just as good as their gas-powered models.

The Honda Prologue is an EV with style

Most automakers try to put a futuristic spin on their EVs, but Honda really nailed it with the 2024 Honda Prologue, and
Electrek
agrees. Though so far only a video has been released of the upcoming EV, it’s still enough to get Honda fans a little hot and bothered.
The front grille is completely blacked out, wrapping across the headlights, too. Another feature (possibly inspired by Tesla?) is a glass roof, which can be spotted on a desk figurine not quite a minute into the video. This is part of a visual style the Honda design team is coining as “neo-rugged”, as
Green Car Reports
explains.

Honda and GM worked together to build the 2024 Honda Prologue

One of the most notable features of the 2024 Honda Prologue doesn’t have anything to do with what it looks like. The Prologue will be
powered by GM’s Ultium Drive technology
, which has been highly anticipated for the next generation of EVs. Initially, GM and Honda aren’t setting the bar too high for the production of this EV: they plan on producing 70,000 units annually for now.
Any questions we have about battery range, powertrain options (dual motors, anyone?), and pricing will have to wait. In the meantime, Honda is planning their next steps toward electrification.

When will Honda transition to all-EV models?

Honda plans to transition to mostly electric models by 2040, which, like their 70,000-unit goal for the 2024 Honda Prologue, is designed to be accomplishable. EVs are expensive to produce, more expensive for consumers, and require companies to shift their service centers toward EV maintenance. Even that requires new safety standards and regulations.
But unlike some other carmakers, Honda doesn’t plan on full electrification, despite showing off the 2024 Honda Prologue. Instead, they want to offer hybrid models and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. It seems that Honda doesn’t plan on keeping all its eggs in one basket.
