The massive electrified phoenix known as the 2022 Hummer EV starts at an eye-popping $110,295 for the lavish Edition 1 model, but three more moderately-priced trims are set to roll out through 2024.
When you think
“Hummer,”
you don’t think green. From the original military Humvee to the brawny, doomed Hummers that were discontinued in 2010, the Hummer image is one of raw earth-be-damned automotive power. The old Hummers were mighty, unswervingly reliable beats; fuel efficient they were not.
That all changes with the 2022 GMC Hummer EV. That’s right, the Hummer is back with an all-electric powertrain, and

2022 Hummer EV pricing information

Pricing for the 2022 Hummer EV starts at $110,295—for the time being.
See,
GMC
is rolling out the electric Hummer one trim level at a time, starting with the top-of-the-line Edition 1, which boasts a tri-motor setup capable of generating a truly dizzying 1,000 horsepower. The price of this ridiculously powerful Hummer EV jumped by $6,250 in June 2022 due to increasing costs for truck components. Oh, and it’s already sold out completely
As of July 2022, the release schedule and price of the final three Hummer EV trims are as follows:
  • Fall 2022: EV3X starting at $104,650
  • Spring 2023: EV2X starting at $94,650
  • Spring 2024: EV2 starting at $84,650
All of those dates and prices are subject to change, but you can expect to wait until at least 2023 if you want to buy an electric Hummer for less than six figures.
In the meantime, you can
reserve your Hummer EV
on GMC’s website for a mere $100—fully refundable up until you confirm your purchase order!

Is a Hummer EV worth it?

Compared to the other electric trucks on or approaching the market, the Hummer EV is undeniably expensive. By contrast, the 2022
Ford
F-150 Lightning starts at $41,769 and the R1T electric truck from newcomer Rivian barely breaks the $85,000 mark in its upper trim. Even the much-touted
Tesla
Cybertruck is set to debut at a starting MSRP of $39,900, which is downright affordable.
So, the Hummer EV costs more than any other electric truck. But that’s not the question—the question is, is it worth it?
The answer depends on what you’re looking for. If you’ve got your heart set on a near-futuristic electric vehicle with unbelievable off-road chops (it can literally crawl sideways like a crab in rough terrain!), the Hummer EV might be worth it.
If you’ve been mourning the gas-powered Hummer since its timely demise in 2010, it might be worth it. If you want to sprint from zero to 60 in 3.5 seconds in an environmentally-friendly truck nearly the size of a shipping container, you’d probably be a fool not to buy the Hummer EV.
In the end, only you can find the truth within yourself. But to help you make that call, let’s take a closer look at a few of the most important features of this gargantuan EV.

What is the horsepower of a Hummer EV?

The Hummer EV proves that going electric doesn’t need to mean sacrificing power. The Edition 1 tri-motor setup is capable of cranking out up to 1,000 horsepower. That’s supercar levels of sheer power.
In lower trims, the Hummer EV’s motors cool off a bit—but only a bit. The three motors of the EV3X trim are good for 830 hp and 11,500 lb-ft of torque, while the bottom trims both get 625 horsepower and 7,400 lb-ft of torque from a dual-motor setup.

What is the range of the Hummer EV?

The top range estimated by the EPA for the 2022 Hummer EV is a seriously impressive 329 miles in the Edition 1 trim—although real-world tests have recorded ranges under 300. In the base trim, driving range drops into the 250-mile range

Is the Hummer EV reliable?

Only time will tell whether the Hummer EV lives up to the brand’s historic reputation for reliability. Two possible predicting factors:
  • GMC trucks tend to hover slightly above average for reliability. For instance, the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 ranked #1 out of large light-duty pickups in J.D. Power’s annual quality and dependability ranking.
  • Electric vehicles tend to be more reliable than gas-powered vehicles, for the simple reason that they have fewer components that are liable to wear out. However, the cost of repairs is often steeper, offsetting the benefits of that easy-going nature.
