Which Dodge vehicles have the best gas mileage?

Dodge vehicles are made with performance in mind—but with hefty engines and big bodies, they often lag behind the competition when it comes to fuel efficiency. If you’re looking for a classic Dodge that doesn’t guzzle quite as much gas, these are the models to look at:
  • 2022 Dodge Charger: up to 23 mpg combined
  • 2022 Dodge Challenger: up to 23 mpg combined
  • 2022 Dodge Durango: up to 21 mpg combined
The 3.0-liter, six-cylinder
Dodge Charger
leads the pack in fuel efficiency for Dodge models, followed by the retro-styled
and the lofty
SUV. Below, we take a closer look at each.

The most fuel-efficient Dodge cars

If you’re looking for flat-out fuel efficiency, you’ll be hard-pressed to find it in a Dodge. High-performance muscle cars are the brand’s bread and butter. That being said, if you’re looking to make a compromise, the Dodge Charger might just meet you in the middle as Dodge’s most fuel-efficient muscle car.
The Charger performs best on highway roads. Despite its heavier V6 engine, you can expect to see a solid 25 to 26 miles to the gallon on highway drives. Even the optional V8 engine manages more or less the same efficiency, as highways allow the Charger to shine in a way that the city stop-and-go just can’t compete with.
However, not all Charger trim levels are made equal. Supercharged engines—such as the
’s 6.2-liter V8—get even worse fuel economy, so you’ll want to pick your trim level wisely if fuel efficiency is a top concern.
Close on the Charger’s heels is the Challenger. With a standard 3.6-liter, six-cylinder engine, the Challenger feels a little lighter on its feet than the Charger—you can expect close to 30 highway miles to the gallon. The downside is, however, that you’ll only manage to get about 19 city miles—so if you live in a heavily trafficked area, the Challenger won’t be doing your fuel tank any favors.
How do Dodge’s most fuel-efficient models match up to the competition? You’ll find slightly better mileage from both the 2022
Ford Mustang
and 2022
Chevy Camaro
on highway roads—both have an estimated 30 highway mpg.

Most fuel-efficient Dodge SUVs

The Dodge Durango is currently the brand’s only SUV—but thankfully, fuel efficiency takes priority in this massive three-row crossover.
Models equipped with the standard four-cylinder engine see the best fuel economy, with an estimated 22 combined mpg, or 19 city/26 hwy miles to the gallon. Surprisingly, the Durango’s optional six-cylinder engine remains competitive with other V6-powered vehicles in its segment—although you’ll sacrifice efficiency for power in the optional V8 engine.
Of course, Durango drivers know that fuel economy isn’t exactly the SUV’s highest selling point. Rather, its nearly unmatched towing and hauling ability is what generates the Durango’s draw.

According to the EPA’s fuel economy information site, Dodge vehicles in the SRT trim tend to have the worst gas mileage of them all—namely the Dodge Challenger SRT, the Dodge Charger SRT Widebody, and the Dodge Durango SRT with all-wheel drive. A combined mpg of just 16 miles sets these trims at the bottom of the pack in terms of fuel efficiency. Their commonality? A hefty eight-cylinder engine.
While the Dodge Charger leads among the manufacturer’s models as the most fuel-efficient, it’s certainly not the biggest gas-saver on the market. The hybrid powertrain 2022 Toyota Prius Prime dominates that title, with a startling 133 MPGe combined. Close on its heels are the 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage and 2022 Hyundai Elantra.
