1967 Chevy Impala

Dean’s
Chevy Impala
is the most iconic car on Supernatural—an episode in season 11 is even named after it. In fact, when the show wrapped in 2020, Jensen Ackles—the actor who played Dean Winchester—took the car home as a souvenir from his time filming.
But aside from its role in helping supernatural heroes deal with mystical foes, what makes this 1967
Chevrolet
so special?
Well, for starters, it’s a sleek, classic sports car that has stood the test of time. With a stunning exterior, lavish interior, and powerful engine, the Impala was synonymous with luxury and performance when it debuted as a concept car in 1956. And that reputation holds to this day. The ‘67 model in particular was touted as a unique combination of full-size comfort with powerful V8 performance.
When you think about cars in Supernatural, the Impala is probably the first to come to mind. But what other cars did Dean drive throughout the show?

Dodge Caravan

In the season two episode “Everybody Loves a Clown,” Dean and his brother Sam are forced to hop into a
Dodge Caravan
after an accident in the Impala. While the new car has nowhere near the style points, it still gets them through their adventures and back to safety—solid results from a car that
Car and Driver
magazine describes as “really just cheap.”
The 2020 Dodge Caravan is affordable, starting at $29,025, and features a naturally aspirated, 283-horsepower V6 engine and six-speed automatic transmission. Though its acceleration is quite slow, it’s a roomy vehicle that Car and Driver says is “good enough for a vacation rental.”
Dean and Sam might add it is good enough for fighting monsters too.

Ford Mustang

Dean drives a 1960s-era
Ford Mustang
in the episode “My Heart Will Go On,” which is centered around an alternate reality. In the context of the show, the car switch occurs as a result of Dean saving the Titanic from sinking.
Like the Impala, the Ford Mustang is a classic sports car that has been in continuous production since 1964. The 2022 Ford Mustang starts at $28,400 and boasts an Intercooled Turbo Premium Unleaded I-4 engine.

1962 Mercury Monterey

In the season four episode “Lazarus Rising,” Dean is resurrected from the dead only to discover that his 1967 Chevy Impala is nowhere to be found. To remedy the problem, he hotwires a
Mercury Monterey
at a gas station to get back to work dealing with the supernatural—and retrieving his beloved Baby.
The Monterey was manufactured by the
Mercury
division of Ford from 1952 to 1974. The 1962 base trim had a 210-horsepower V8 engine and a three-speed manual transmission

1988 Ford F-250

When Dean decides to lead a normal life in season six, he temporarily ditches his Impala for an “average Joe” truck: a 1988
Ford F-250
. While it only lasts two episodes, this reliable old car serves him well.
Today, you can buy a used 1988 F-250 for around $10,000. The truck offers a 5.0L V8 naturally aspirated engine and an automatic four-speed transmission.
