The Volvo XC60 is a capable and distinguished compact luxury crossover SUV, and throughout its production, the brand has remained fairly consistent in the model’s build. That includes the gas tank, which has had very little variance over the years.

The XC60 models made for the 2021 and 2022 model years have an 18.8-gallon gas tank on all the conventional gas-powered builds. The plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) come with a slightly smaller 18.5-gallon tank.

Measure the gas tank

If you’re willing to climb underneath your car, you can measure the outside of the fuel tank to calculate its capacity. Grab a measuring tape and a calculator, and get right under the gas tank. Measure the tank’s width, length, and height, being sure to get the figure in inches.

Once you’ve taken all three measurements, multiply the three figures together and divide that result by 231, which is the number of cubic inches per gallon. This will tell you how many gallons the tank can hold.

Check your owner’s manual
