The 2004 Toyota Tacoma is the latest model year in which the Xtracab body style was offered. Upgrading the Xtracab from the standard four-cylinder engine to the 190-horsepower V6 was included as part of the 2WD S-Runner Xtracab sport truck package, but the V6 could be added individually to the standard Xtracab body. Also featured in the S-Runner package were sport-tuned suspension and a five-speed manual transmission.
Most features on the 2004 Tacoma, like air conditioning, cruise control, and power windows and locks, were optional. However, Toyota offered an SR5 and Limited package that bundled several. Additionally, a TRD (Toyota Racing Development) off-road package could be added to 4WD Xtracab models, which included Bilstein shocks, a locking rear differential, and a larger stabilizer bar.
