A sleek, futuristic, and all-electric SUV from Tesla, the 2022 Model Y comes standard with five seats. An optional third-row seating upgrade increases the number to seven.
With its sci-fi aesthetic, impressive all-electric driving range, and the characteristic Tesla focus on “cool factor,” the 2022 Model Y is perfect for tech fans, people with long commutes, or anyone who’s sick of paying for gas in general.
Before you grab your wallet and head to the dealership, though, let’s go over the Model Y’s seating situation.

How many seats does the 2022 Tesla Model Y have?
The standard 2022 Tesla Model Y seats five people. There is, however, an optional third-row seating upgrade at a cost of $3,000, which adds two small seats in the back.
Don’t put too much faith in those third-row seats, though, because it’s a tight squeeze back there. With only 26.5 inches of legroom and 36.5 inches of hip room, spending too long in the third row will certainly give you an appreciation of how tuna feels in the can. The third-row seats are best reserved for children or maybe one adult (as long as you’re not going too far).

. 2022 Tesla Model Y interior
On the inside, the Model Y offers great visibility and plenty of room to stretch out and get comfortable. And of course, it’s got that trademark futuristic aesthetic that Tesla is famous for, with an enormous touchscreen interface controlling almost everything. The touchscreen can be one of the major drawbacks, though, because there’s a bit of a learning curve and it can be quite distracting to use.
Dimensions
Let’s zoom in on the interior dimensions for the 2022 Model Y. As you can see, the front two rows are very spacious, but the third row leaves a lot to be desired.

Cargo space
Another area where the Model Y performs pretty well is cargo space
. With all the seats folded down, the 2022 Model Y has 67.9 cubic feet of storage space, pretty good for a compact SUV. Transporting both people and cargo can quickly cause the available space to dwindle, though. With the third row folded down, the cargo volume decreases to 26.6 cubic feet, and there are only 12.8 cubic feet available behind the third row if all seven seats are occupied.
To compare, the 2022 Kia EV6 only has 50.2 cubic feet of cargo volume with all the seats folded down, and that number drops down to 24.4 cubic feet if the seats are in use.
Which other Tesla vehicles can seat eight people?
Sadly, there are no vehicles in Tesla’s lineup that can fit eight people. The only other Tesla vehicle that can seat seven people is the deluxe Model X SUV.
Of course, it’s entirely possible that this could change sometime in the future. Tesla is renowned for innovation and constantly pushing the envelope in the auto industry, so anything could happen. Who knows what might come next after the Cybertruck
