Subaru may not be the biggest name in sports cars, but the Subaru WRX STI is a beast, with a 0-to-60 acceleration speed of 4.4 seconds. While it isn’t as effective as some of its competitors in low-speed environments, it has an easy, balanced feeling when driven at full force.
Finding the right leisure car is all about striking a balance between speed and comfort. While it’s easy to find one or the other, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a car that so perfectly embodies the intersection of comfort and luxury as the Subaru WRX STI.

How fast can the WRX STI go from 0 to 60?

The Subaru WRX STI can go from 0 to 60 in 4.4 seconds.
While that may seem a little abstract, the STI’s acceleration is on par with the BMW M760i and the Dodge Charger Hellcat.
This speed is largely due to the turbocharged flat-four engine that brings balanced power to the car. While it can be a little finicky to get it up to speed, the WRX STI performs at its best while under duress. Armed with quality suspension and 296 horsepower, the WRX STI only reaches peak performance on the open road.

What makes the Subaru WRX STI so fast?

The secret to the WRX STI’s speed and torque is its turbocharged flat-four engine. But let’s break down what that means.
Having a turbocharged engine means that the WRX STI forces exhaust back into the cylinders as it runs. This process builds pressure in the engine, forcing the pistons to move faster and produce more power. While turbocharging can also be used for in-line engines, the flat-four engine is balanced enough to bear the extra power without sacrificing control.
A flat-four engine, also known as a boxer engine, is built with four pistons. Two pistons are positioned on either side of the engine, directly facing the other pair. When the car speeds up and the pistons start working harder, each cylinder directly opposes the force of the one across from it—leaving the car balanced and controlled at even the most extreme speeds.

The Subaru WRX STI holds its own against its direct competitors in terms of 0 to 60 acceleration. In fact, the WRX STI is one of the best-performing cars among its competition.
It’s also worth noting that the WRX STI incorporates all-wheel drive in addition to its solid suspension system, making it more viable in off-road settings than almost any of its competitors.
