Title 47-1113
of the Oklahoma Statutes states that “the license plate, decal, and all letters and numbers shall be clearly visible at all times.” Additionally, any license plate that is “covered, overlaid, or otherwise screened with any material, whether such material be clear, translucent, tinted, or opaque, shall be a violation of this paragraph.”If you thought you could rep your favorite sports team or college on your license plate frame, think again. The entirety of the six-digit license number and registration must be visible with no obstructions. License plate frames of any kind are illegal in Oklahoma.

License plate covers are also illegal in Oklahoma. Regardless of whether the plate is visible and the cover is clear, license plates must be clearly visible with no obstructions. License plates must also not be covered by any material that causes glare or makes the plate difficult to read in any way.
What are the fines for license plate frames in Oklahoma?
Any individual violating the license plate laws may be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction may be subject to a fine of up to $500.
