Nissan Versa Ground Clearance

All three trim levels of the Nissan Versa get 6.8 inches of ground clearance.

background
The 2022 Nissan Versa has 6.8 inches of ground clearance for all three trims: the S, SV, and SR. Nissan Versas that were manufactured before 2013 had 6.3 inches of ground clearance.
While this subcompact car may be affordable, comfortable, and safe, it’s not the car to take on an off-roading adventure. The Versa’s 6.3 inches of ground clearance is plenty of room for smooth city driving but stick to an SUV or truck if you’re looking for a vehicle to take off the main roads.

2022 Nissan Versa ground clearance

The 2022 Nissan Versa comes in three trim levels, each with the same ground clearance:
  • S
    : 6.8 inches
  • SV
    : 6.8 inches
  • SR
    : 6.8 inches
While this ground clearance is too low for off-roading, it is higher than the competition. For example, the 2022
Hyundai Accent
caps off at a 5.5-inch ground clearance.

Nissan Versa ground clearance over the years

The ground clearance may be lower than the 2022 model if you're driving an older Versa. Generally speaking, ground clearances tend to rise over the years, which is true for the Nissan Versa (although not by much!).
Here’s how the Nissan Versa ground clearance has changed over the years:
  • 2006–2011: 6.3 inches
  • 2012 hatchback: 6.3 inches
  • 2012 sedan: 6.8 inches
  • 2013-2022: 6.8 inches
If you’re driving a 2012 Nissan Versa, the ground clearance varies between the hatchback and sedan. Every other year, the Versa has the same ground clearance across the various trims.

What is ground clearance—and why does it matter?

At the end of the day, these measurements are meaningless if you’re not even sure what ground clearance is. Ground clearance is the measurement of the distance between the lowest point on a vehicle’s body and the ground. Essentially, it represents the space between your car and the ground.
Have you ever been in a vehicle that didn’t roll over speed bumps but scraped over? As you can imagine, that is not good for the integrity of your car, and it usually means it has a very low ground clearance (combined with some suspension issues!). Now imagine you’re taking that vehicle off-roading…not a pretty sight. Experts recommend a minimum ground clearance of 8.5 inches to keep your car safe on any off-roading adventures.

Is the Nissan Versa a good off-road vehicle?

No, the Nissan Versa is not a car you want to take off-road. The minimum ground clearance a vehicle should have for off-roading is 8.5 inches, and the Nissan Versa only has 6.8 inches.
If you’re looking for a car to take on your weekend adventures, consider looking at an SUV or off-roading truck.
