When to renew your driver’s license in New Hampshire
You should receive a warning by mail about 2 months before your driver’s license is set to expire in New Hampshire. If you’ve recently moved and didn’t let the DMV know, or if your

Once you make an appointment, you’ll need to:
- Bring your current driver’s license
- Have $50 or a check for that much on hand
- Pass a vision test
If you want to upgrade to a REAL ID, you’ll need to bring additional documents. The same might be true if you are a non-citizen.
Extension by mail
You can’t renew your driver’s license in New Hampshire by mail, but you can apply for a six-month extension if you are out of state.
To qualify for an extension:
- The DMV needs your photo
- Your license can’t be suspended
- You can’t owe the DMV any money
