background
Starting on May 3, 2023, you’ll only be permitted to use your
Nevada
driver’s license
to board domestic flights if it is compliant with the standards set by the 2005 REAL ID Act.
A driver’s license not only authorizes you to drive, but it’s also likely your main form of identification whether you’re checking in at the doctor’s office or ordering a drink at the bar. But in 2023, your Nevada license will be due for an upgrade to a REAL ID if you want to use it to board domestic flights.

What is REAL ID?

Since 9/11, there have been drastic changes and updates with regard to national security.
About a year after the 9/11 Commission released its report, the
REAL ID Act
was signed into law in 2005. The act created new rules for ID documents—and that included driver’s licenses. While the rollout has been slow, the act is set to finally be enforced in 2023

Who needs a REAL ID?

Beginning on the 3rd day of May in 2023, a REAL ID is going to be necessary if you want to:
  • Have the ability to enter certain federal facilities
  • Go inside a nuclear power plant
  • Fly on federally regulated commercial aircraft (that includes domestic flights)
Now if you’re not employed at a federal facility or don’t frequent nuclear power plants, options one and two may not matter to you. However, should you desire to use your Nevada driver’s license to get through TSA checkpoints on domestic flights, you must upgrade to a REAL ID-compliant license by 2023.
Remember, you’ll still be able to present other forms of identification to get on an airplane, like a passport, even if you don’t get a REAL ID-compliant license by the deadline. For a full list of approved identity documents, check out the
TSA website
Key Takeaway The REAL ID Act established new rules and guidelines as it relates to identification documents. The act is set to be enforced in 2023.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
