Which Maseratis Have a Manual Transmission?

Maserati no longer manufactures any vehicles with manual transmissions.

Maserati does not manufacture any vehicles with standard manual transmissions. Instead, they are equipped with either an automatic paddle gearbox called a Cambiocorsa or a regular automatic transmission. The 2006 Maserati Coupe was the last vehicle manufactured with a standard stick shift.
It’s easy to assume that a sports car would come standard with a manual transmission. But what we think of when we think of a stick shift now is not what it used to be. Manufacturers like Maserati are always on the lookout for ways to make things not only more fun but also safer, and their switch to a paddle shifter rather than a stick shift was one of those things. After all, the more our hands stay on the wheel, the better.

Does Maserati still make a manual?

No—at least not technically.
Maseratis, especially those manufactured after 2007, are equipped with either a standard automatic transmission or an automated-clutch manual transmission called Cambiocorsa. With the Cambiocorsa, there is no clutch, and instead of the center-console-mounted stick shift, drivers use paddle shifters behind the steering wheel to switch gears (think Formula One).
This option allows drivers the gear and RPM control of a stick shift, without needing to let go of the wheel or worrying about a third pedal on the floor. If you’re still looking for a traditional stick in your Maserati, you’ll need to look for a used Coupe.

Coupe

Starting price: Est. $10,829-$21,296
With an original asking price of over $80,000, the current asking price for a used Maserati Coupe seems downright cheap. 2006 is the last model year of the Coupe to feature a fully manual transmission option, so if you’re looking for the real thing, you’ll have to buy used.
From the beginning, the Coupe was somewhat rare in that it was a European luxury performance car on the market for less than $100K. Add to this the fact that not too many were built, and one would actually expect its current asking price to be much higher. But therein lies the beauty—or ugliness—of
luxury vehicle depreciation
.
As its name suggests, the Coupe is a coupe, and it comes equipped with a 390-horsepower 4.2-liter V8 borrowed from Ferrari and begging to be revved. The Coupe’s Skyhook active suspension makes for more comfortable and dynamic handling around corners, which is where those paddle shifters actually come in pretty handy, too.

Benefits and drawbacks of a manual transmission

Whichever side of the
manual versus automatic transmission
argument you fall on, the fact is there are certain benefits and drawbacks to a stick shift.
Some of the benefits of a manual transmission include:
  • Pro: They’re sometimes cheaper than automatics.
  • Pro: They can be hard to steal. If you don’t know how to drive a stick, you can’t really steal a car that has one.
  • Pro: Transmission repair costs are lower.
  • Pro: They’re FUN!
And the drawbacks of a stick shift:
  • Con: You can skip leg day at the gym if you get stuck in traffic—especially if there are hills involved.
  • Con: They can be difficult to learn. Plus, as they become rare, you’re less likely to be able to find someone to teach you.
  • Con: Modern automatics get better gas mileage.
The biggest drawback to manual transmissions, though, may be how difficult they’re becoming to find. As of 2021, only
27 new cars are available in the U.S. with manual transmissions
.
Key Takeaway Manual transmissions offer you greater control and save you money on transmission repairs, but they can be hard to drive and even harder to find.

If there was a definitive answer to this question, car enthusiasts would have a lot less to talk about! If you find driving stick more enjoyable and want to lower upfront and repair costs, a manual might be the better option.
Not necessarily. While you might see lower repair costs on a manual Maserati’s transmission, you’ll likely see more costs coming your way associated with the vehicle’s age.
