How big is the gas tank on a Lincoln Navigator?

Drivers love the Lincoln Navigator thanks to its powerful engine, smooth ride, and luxurious interior that’s big enough for most families. But how big is the gas tank? That all depends.
The navigator has been around for nearly two decades, and each year has had a slightly different fuel tank size, with even more variation depending on the trim level.
Most trims of the 2022 model come with a 23.6-gallon tank, but some come with a 27.8-gallon option. For the 2021 model, that goes down just a bit, with most models coming with a 23-gallon tank, and others offering room for 27 gallons. Almost all 2020 models come with a 23-gallon tank
The 2019 models come with a 23-gallon tank as well, except for the 4D Black Label 4WD V6 Turbo, 4D Reserve 4WD V6 Turbo, 4D Select 2WD V6 Turbo, and 4D Select 4WD V6 Turbo, which come equipped with a 27-gallon tank. If you have a 2018, you can expect about the same.
For the 2017, 2016, and 2015 model years, most trims with turbo engines have a 28-gallon tank, with the exceptions being the 4D Select 4WD V6 Turbo and the 4D Select 2WD V6 Turbo, which come with a 33.5-gallon tank. The 4D Reserve 2WD V6 and 4D Reserve 4WD V6 without the turbo engine also have room for 33.5 gallons in their gas tanks.
From 2014 through 2010, most trims came with a 33.5-gallon tank. If your Navigator was produced before 2010 but after 2002, it likely holds around 28 gallons in its gas tank.

How to check your Lincoln Navigator’s gas tank size

If you still have some questions, don’t worry—you can use one of these tips to find the exact capacity of your gas tank:

Measure the gas tank

If you don’t mind a little math, you can measure and calculate the size of the gas tank yourself. Take a measuring tape and find the width, length, and height of your tank. Multiply those together, and divide your answer by 231 (the number of cubic inches in a gallon).

Check your owner’s manual

This way is probably the easiest, assuming you have your owner’s manual lying around somewhere still. This info will likely be listed under “fuel tank capacity” or something similar.

Drive till empty, then fill it up

Don’t mind a little risk? This one's for you: Drive your Navigator until your tank is almost empty and your fuel gauge hits “E”, then get to a gas station. However much gas you can fit into the almost-empty tank is an estimation of the total capacity.

How to save on fuel costs in a Lincoln Navigator

The 2022 Lincoln Navigator is rated for up to 17 mpg in the city and 23 on the highway—pretty good for its class! Still, there are always ways to save a little extra on your fuel costs:
  • Regular maintenance. Everything from regular tire rotations to oil changes can affect your vehicle's performance, especially its fuel economy.
  • Avoid harsh acceleration. Sudden and aggressive acceleration can eat up unnecessary fuel, reducing your overall efficiency.
  • Avoid idling. Though you may not be going anywhere, idling still uses up gas. Try not to run your car for too long without going anywhere, if you want to maximize your mileage.
