The 2023 Lexus ES 300h stands as the pinnacle of fuel efficiency for Lexus—but other models are close behind.

Which Lexus has the best gas mileage?

While the 2023 Lexus ES 300h midsize hybrid takes the top spot for fuel efficiency, the 2023 UX 250h compact hybrid is right on its heels. Coming in third place is the 2023 ES 250 midsize sedan.
  • 2023 Lexus ES 300h: up to 44 mpg combined
  • 2023 Lexus UX 250h: up to 42 mpg combined
  • 2023 Lexus ES 250: up to 28 mpg combined
Let’s get into this in more detail. Maybe you want an SUV. Maybe you really don’t want a hybrid. Whatever the case, Lexus has options for you.

The most fuel-efficient Lexus cars

We’re kicking this off strong with the all-around winner, the 2023 ES 300h. Its 215-horsepower, four-cylinder engine may not be the most impressive, but it makes up for it with an EPA-estimated 44 mpg combined city/highway.
With a starting MSRP of $42,490, it’s priced lower than competitors like the 2023
Audi A6
(MSRP $56,995) or the 2022
Mercedes-Benz E-Class
(MSRP $56,000). And if you’re wondering how it stacks up in terms of gas mileage, be reassured it remains the king. The Audi A6 has a combined 27 mpg, and the Mercedes-Benz sits at 26 mpg
If you share Car and Driver’s opinion that it’s a shinier, fancier
Toyota Camry
, you may be wondering how it compares there, as well. It doesn’t quite live up to the Camry’s 46 mpg combined, but where it really lags is the price. The
Camry Hybrid
is far more affordable with its starting MSRP of $27,040—but it can’t claim the Lexus’ level of luxury.

Most fuel-efficient Lexus SUVs

Like the 2023 ES 300h, the 2023 Lexus UX 250h doesn’t have a lot of in-house competition. In fact, the only one it has to beat is itself!
The front-wheel-drive (FWD) trim is slightly more efficient than the all-wheel-drive (AWD) trim when it comes to fuel, but both get excellent estimates from the EPA. With FWD, you can expect 42 mpg combined; with AWD, you’re looking at around 39 mpg. That’s pretty impressive for an SUV!
But such laudable stats come at a price. Its smaller size allows it to soak up less gas, but it sacrifices the storage space SUVs are known for.
Here’s how it stacks up against some of its competition:
The Lexus UX 250h starts at $35,925, so if you’re okay giving up a bit of storage for more miles to the gallon at a lower price, it’s the better option.

Most fuel-efficient non-hybrid Lexuses

This is where Lexus really shines in terms of optionality. There are plenty of non-hybrid models to choose from, and several have competitive mileage.
We start off with another 2023 ES—this time the 250 AWD. It takes a pretty steep drop in mpg compared to the 300h, settling in at a still-respectable 28 mpg combined.
Keeping it in the family, the ES 350 offers 26 mpg combined. But if you have a need for speed, it might be worth the higher gas bill. The model comes equipped with a 302-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 that flew from zero to 60 in 6.1 seconds in Car and Driver’s speed test.
The next most efficient at 25 mpg combined is actually a three-way tie!
  • 2023 Lexus RC 300 (MSRP $43,970): Boasting athletic looks and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, the RC 300 appeals to the sportier driver.
  • 2023 Lexus ES 350 F Sport: With the most disappointing mpg in the ES line and the same engine as the standard ES 350, the F Sport offers the best handling. If driving performance is your determining factor, this one might be a winner.
  • 2023 Lexus IS 300: Edmunds recommends choosing the rear-wheel-drive option for this model as the turbocharged four-cylinder isn’t lacking in power, and it comes with slightly better fuel efficiency.
