How much is the Kansas gas tax?

The gas tax in Kansas for 2022-2023 remains steady at $0.240 per gallon—one of the lowest in the nation.Miraculously, fuel taxes have not changed in the Sunflower State since 2003
But that doesn’t mean Kansas drivers aren’t feeling the effects at the pump as gas prices have soared nationwide due to the war in Ukraine. With gas prices at an all-time high, Kansas residents are changing their driving habits to save on fuel costs.

Is gas tax relief on the way in Kansas?

At the end of March 2022, U.S. Senator Roger Marshall led the charge to lower gas costs by introducing the
Gas Prices Relief Act of 2022
. According to Senator Marshall, this bill would effectively suspend the federal gas tax in Kansas until the end of 2022 (or until the average gas price is $2.60 per gallon or less) and prohibit any new regulations that might decrease U.S. energy production, increase gasoline prices, or negatively affect energy production.

How high are gas prices in Kansas?

According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of gasoline in Kansas is approximately $3.426 (as of September 2022). That’s up from $2.912 a year ago (a $0.514 increase!) that’s still slightly below the national average of $3.703.
