The Jeep Willys-Overland is the only station wagon that Jeep ever manufactured. Production on the Willys-Overland ceased in 1964.
Widely considered to be the first true sports utility vehicle (SUV), the Jeep Willys-Overland station wagon was the first all-steel wagon. It was designed as a passenger vehicle that evolved from its use as a military staple into a commercial vehicle. The Willys-Overland’s utilitarian approach appealed to many everyday drivers during its production from 1946 to 1964.

Does Jeep still make a station wagon?
No. Although the Willys-Overland station wagon enjoyed a run of nearly 20 years, Jeep stopped manufacturing it in 1964.
In its early 20th century history, Jeep was originally known as Willys Motor Company—hence the name of the iconic station wagon. The company officially changed its name to Jeep in 1963, the year before the Station Wagon was phased out. The name change marked a major shift in the company and, unfortunately, resulted in the Willys-Overland station wagon being replaced by the Jeep Wagoneer in 1965.
While the Willys-Overland station wagon is no longer available, it was Willy’s best-selling post-war model.
What’s the difference between a station wagon and a hatchback?
If you’re not a car enthusiast, you might not be 100% sure what differentiates a station wagon from a hatchback
. Well, wonder no more! Here’s what makes the station wagon body style unique: A longer body than a sedan or hatchback
Extended passenger/cargo space accessed by a liftgate
Typically includes a D-pillar
Station wagons and hatchbacks are different from sedans in that they follow a two-box design, where seating and storage are combined. Sedans, on the other hand, use a three-box design, in which the engine, passengers, and storage compartments are all separated.
Unlike station wagons, hatchbacks have a tendency to prioritize style over storage. They are shorter where station wagons are longer, and where station wagons typically feature a characteristically boxy rear end to accommodate additional storage and third-row seating, hatchbacks tend to have a gentler rear slope.
