Most interstate highways adhere to a defined numbering system. Routes with odd numbers, like I-89, tend to run north-south, while routes with even numbers usually run east-west. The most important roadways, like I-95 or I-10, usually end in a zero or a five.

I-89 runs for 191 miles and crosses through two states:

New Hampshire

: 61 miles

Vermont

: 130 miles

I-89 begins at an intersection of I-93 and New Hampshire Route 3A, just south of Concord, the state’s capital. It ends at the Canadian border in Highgate Springs, Vermont, where it turns into Route 133 and proceeds to Philipsburg, Quebec.
