What is an interstate highway?

Names can be deceiving, but an interstate highway is named quite literally: it’s a highway that runs between states
These strips of road are designed to connect metro area hubs throughout the country, facilitating easy transport.
So now we have our definition down. But what about the numbers? What are those about?
Generally, interstate highways are assigned one- or two-digit numbers. Even-numbered interstates, like I-16, run east to west. Meanwhile, interstates with odd numbers run north to south. And the more important roads often end in a zero or a five.

What states does I-16 run through?

The interstate numbering system is intended to organize highways that traverse state borders. But no system is perfect! There are a few anomalies: designated interstates that exist entirely within the confines of a single state. And our I-16 is one of them!
Although nominally an interstate, I-16 never leaves
Georgia
. Confusing, we know. I-16 is also often called the Jim Gillis Historic Savannah Parkway, which is probably a more apt name for this local roadway. But it's still important you know it by I-16 to help you navigate.
