With electric restomods stealing the spotlight, Hyundai’s concept cars give off a Back to the Future vibe, using iconic body types outfitted with out-of-this-world technology. From the 45 Concept to the Le Fil Rouge, these are the five coolest Hyundai concept cars.
Forget about those sleek, streamlined cars of the future—Hyundai’s concept cars hearken back to the boxy and angular styles of the past, bringing its established brand into the future with autonomous and tech features that can keep up with the best in the business.
There’s no doubt about it—Hyundai is jumping into the electric future of car manufacturing with both feet, and we're here to guide you around Hyundai’s cars of the future.

2016 Hyundai RN 30

Starting off our list is the Hyundai RN 30, a car with speed and performance at the core of its design. Created with the Motorsport and High Performance divisions at Hyundai, the RN 30 is a lightweight speed demon with a low center of gravity—perfect for the race track. The development of this concept car required a high-performance material—chemical company BASF created a new kind of plastic for the specifications of the RN 30!
The technology in the RN 30 is also geared for speed, with driver-assistance features to ensure accurate and responsive handling. A 2.0-liter turbo engine provides the power under the hood, giving the RN 30 the roar you’d expect from a race car. Although the RN30 is not available for consumers, the i30N was inspired by the concept and is for sale in Australia.

2018 Hyundai Le Fil Rouge

The Hyundai Le Fil Rouge was unveiled at the 2018 Geneva motor show and made quite the statement! This concept car reinvents the brand’s Coupe Concept from 1974, combining the past and the future in Hyundai’s characteristic sensuous and sporty design.
Although we don’t know much about what’s under the hood of a Le Fil Rouge, this doesn’t matter as much as what’s inside the cabin—this car is all about the technology. A panoramic floating display with haptic touch technology gives the driver easy control over interior conditions. High-tech fabrics, beautiful wood surfaces, and a two-way air ventilation system inspired by airplanes give a comfortable and calm demeanor to the Le Fil Rouge.

2019 Hyundai Vision T

With a style you could call more muscular than sensuous, the Vision T is a sporty take on a plug-in hybrid. Some unique features of the exterior include trapezoidal wheel arches, a passenger-side charging port surrounded by a ring of lights, and headlights that are integrated into the front grille. Creases in the exterior and a more chunky look than slimmed-down futuristic cars give the Vision T a unique modern style.
The Vision T concept was created in preparation for the
Hyundai Tucson
, which is now available for purchase.

2019 Hyundai 45 Concept

Long-time Hyundai fans will love the 45 Concept—the 45 is an homage to the 1974 Pony Coupe Concept. Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro made the Pony Coupe for the 1974 Turin Motor Show, creating a timeless and geometrically-harmonious model that took on an iconic status within the Hyundai brand. However, the intrigue of the 45 Concept depends on more than nostalgia—it highlights Hyundai’s focus on electric vehicles, sophisticated design, and autonomous driving.
An EV with a sharp silhouette built for aerodynamics, the 45 is a fresh yet solid model that sets the tone for Hyundai’s future designs. A motor on each axle gives the 45 AWD capability with an EV system that has a range of 500 km. With straight folds on the body, short overhangs, and contrasting surface shapes, the 45 Concept is a striking car of the future.
Although you can’t buy the 45, it inspired the 2022 Ioniq 5 crossover, which is available for purchase.
Key Takeaway While not always available for purchase, concept cars inspire the future of innovation.

2020 Hyundai Prophecy

The Hyundai Prophecy follows in the 45 Concept’s steps, focusing on clean and minimalistic lines, electric powertrains, and autonomous driving.
Aerodynamic and sleek, the Prophecy uses an extended wheelbase and shorter overhangs to balance aesthetics with function. The side section is rounded like a weathered stone, creating a streamlined flow from the hood to the boat tail that features quarter panels that draw the eye, giving the impression of movement even when the Prophecy is parked.
