2022 Honda Civic ground clearance

There’s some conflicting information out there when it comes to the Honda Civic’s clearance, but the consensus seems to be that the 2022 Civic is 6.7 inches off the ground.

to top-of-the-line
Touring
, but there doesn’t appear to be any difference in ground clearance among the trims

Honda Civic ground clearance over the years

The Civic has been around since 1972 and is currently in its 11th generation. It’s changed quite a lot over the years. Reportedly, the ground clearance of the Civic has ranged from a scant 3.9 inches to a more robust 6.9 inches over the course of its run.

What is ground clearance—and why does it matter?

What exactly is ground clearance—and why should you care? Ground clearance is a measurement of the distance between the lowest point of a vehicle’s chassis and the ground.
In other words, ground clearance represents the space between your car and the road, and it’s most important for drivers who want to take their vehicles off road. Higher ground clearance translates into the ability to drive over rough terrain without worrying about damaging your vehicle’s undercarriage.
Experts recommend aiming for a minimum ground clearance of 8.5 inches for any off-roading adventures. Most sedans have a ground clearance of around 4-6 inches, while the average SUV has about 8 to 10 inches of clearance

Is the Honda Civic a good off-road vehicle?

The Civic’s ground clearance of 6.7 inches is higher than most sedans. A competitor, the
Mazda CX-3
, comes in at 5-6 inches for this spec.
That being said, it’s still much too low to the ground to be a good off-road vehicle—unless you’re looking for some National Lampoon-style road trip action, a scraped-up underbelly, and some serious side-eye from your mechanic.
The Civic may not be a good car for off-roading, but it’s a great choice for city and highway driving. It’s comfortable, fuel-efficient, and affordable and has been consistently popular with the public and automotive reviewers for years.
Since it sits a little higher than its competitors, that means the Civic will have increased visibility, which is nice to have when navigating busy cityscapes.
