GMC concept cars take off-roading to the next level! The Sierra 2500HD All Mountain Concept, the Granite, and the Canyon AT4 Ovrlandx are three of GMC’s coolest concept cars.
Imagine this: you’re overlanding for the weekend, taking your truck out into the wilderness. What if that off-road truck had a built-in tent? Or maybe it’s the winter, and you want to go off-roading—what if your truck had tractor-like treads that could help you stay safe while
driving in snow
?
GMC’s concept cars are trucks that are built for the adventurous types, packaging functionality and power with everything you might need off the beaten path. Let's find out more!

2010/ 2021 GMC Granite Concept

A compact hatchback with two rows of seating and rear-hinged doors, the GMC Granite was originally revealed in
Detroit
way back in 2010. The concept car was never brought to production, as the rear-hinged doors were a safety issue, and GMC lost one of its brands to bankruptcy, crushing any hopes of Granite production at the time.
The Granite is a sleek, box-like crossover and, if it was built, would be GMC’s smallest vehicle to date. There’s been continued interest in the development of this concept car. In 2021, rumors about the Granite abounded, teasing an altered body type with a 1.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine similar to the one currently powering the
Chevrolet
Trax and
Buick
Encore.
It’s unclear what the future of this concept car may be—if GMC does put the Granite into production, it may appear under a new name. However, with the market demand for crossovers increasing and the Granite’s unique take on the compact body type, we may be seeing an updated model hit production sooner than later.

2018 GMC Sierra 2500HD All Mountain Concept

The GMC Sierra 2500HD All Mountain is truly one-of-a-kind. Revealed at Colorado’s Vail Mountain in 2017, this truck is built for driving in the snow—tractor-like treads take the place of regular tires, giving it the ability to take on steep roads and snow-covered terrain.
In addition to the Mattracks® tread technology, the All Mountain includes luxury features such as Bose speakers and interior leather, giving this monster a sophisticated finish.
Using the
GMC Sierra 2500HD
Denali 4WD Crew Cab platform, the All Mountain combines strength and design to create an impressive presence. With a Duramax 445-hp 6.6L turbo diesel L5P engine under the hood, the All Mountain is never short on power, making it the perfect concept car for off-roading winter activities. The Sierra 2500HD All Mountain Concept also comes with the following:
  • Mattracks 150 Series Tracks with GMC Red finish
  • Wheel well and underbody LED lights
  • Snowboard rack
  • An amplifier and dual pod speaker system
  • A 30-inch light bar
  • Soft roll-up tonneau cover
Only a prototype of the All Mountain Concept currently exists, and it’s not available for purchase.

2021 GMC Canyon AT4 Ovrlandx Concept

With overlanding growing in popularity, it’s no wonder that GMC’s newest concept vehicle is kitted out for living off the grid. The GMC Canyon AT4 Ovrlandx concept balances functionality with style, providing all the necessary accessories to make staying in the wilderness comfortable.
For one thing, the build of the AT4 Ovrlandx is attuned to driving in the wild—from a wide chassis to the heavy-duty front bumper and winch, this concept car is ready for anything. Guidelines protect the windshield from low-hanging branches, while 17-inch AEV Crestone wheels with 33-inch BFGoodrich KM3 Mud-Terrain tires get the job done in wet conditions.
The coolest parts of the AT4 Ovrlandx, however, are the off-road accessories. Included to ensure a comfortable overlanding experience, these features are what give the AT4 Ovrlandx its lasting appeal:
  • AEV rear off-road bumper
  • A roof-mounted tent
  • 270-degree awning
  • Jerry cans for gasoline and water
  • Traction boards
  • Cooler and kitchenette
  • Truck bed storage with drawer system
  • Solar panel
Although the AT4 Ovrlandx isn’t yet available for consumers, GM has said that the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X will be based on the concept with added features similar to the
Chevrolet Colorado ZR2
