The base 2022 Dodge Charger SXT V6 is a classic American muscle car with 292 horsepower and a 5-star safety rating.

Although the base model’s 292 horsepower may not hold up to today’s performance vehicle standards, the 2022 Dodge Charger SXT V6 still owns its namesake status as an American muscle car. It’s got the look—and it’s got the speed and power to blow by most other cars on the road with 260 foot-pounds of torque and a 0 to 60 time of 6.4 seconds.
The SXT may lag behind other sports cars, but the large sedan comes in another V6 trim as the
Dodge Charger SXT
AWD. With the SXT AWD, you get a higher horsepower of 300 at 6350 RPM and 264 foot-pounds of torque. It costs a little more, but it comes with a few added features.
Check out everything you need to know about the Charger with this handy guide. You’ll find more specs on the 2022 Dodge Charger SXT V6, plus comparisons with the AWD trim package and other V6 options from Dodge.

2022 Dodge Charger SXT V6

Starting price: $32,500 Engine: 3.6L Pentastar® V6 24-valve variable valve timing engine Horsepower: 278 hp @ 6000 rpm Torque: 260 lb-ft @ 4800 rpm 0 to 60: 6.4 seconds
The 2022 SXT is a big, burly machine made for tearing up the road. The base model and the SXT AWD package both come with 13 color options, three of them—White Knuckle, Pitch Black, and TorRed—being standard. Other cool color options for the 2022 V6 include Hellraisin, Smokeshow, and Octane Red.
For about $4,000 more than the base price, buyers can opt for the SXT AWD V6, which switches out the SXT’s standard 17x7-painted cast-aluminum wheels for 19x7.5-inch satin carbon wheels. Of course, the AWD model also has higher horsepower and torque—up to 300 and 264, respectively.
Both the SXT (which is a
rear-wheel drive
) and the SXT AWD feature the same 3.6L V6 engine and Torqueflite 8-speed automatic transmission
Some other appealing attributes you’ll see in both trims include:
  • Cargo space galore: The 2022 Charger SXT includes an expansive 16.5 cubic feet of trunk space.
  • Dual-zone air conditioning: The SXT V6 offers dual-zone front manual air conditioning and underseat and console vents. An optional cold-weather package includes heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.
  • Infotainment options: The Dodge Uconnect system comes standard on a 7-inch or 8.4-inch touchscreen display, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
  • 5-star safety rating: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave Charger glowing reviews, awarding it top scores for safety.
The Charger also offers lots of add-ons. Upgrades include a cold-weather package with heated steering wheels and heated front seats, a technology package with driver assistance support, and options to enhance the car’s appearance and technology.

How’s the fuel economy?

If you’re looking at a muscle car, you might not be too concerned about the
fuel economy
. But it’s worth knowing the details before you buy.
The base SXT gets up to 19 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. If you opt for the SXT AWD, you’ll max out at 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.

Which Dodge Charger builds have the V6?

Aside from the Dodge Charger SXT and SXT AWD, you can also find the same trusty V6 powering the
Dodge Charger GT
, which starts at $35,275. All the other Charger styles feature a more powerful V8—in exchange for lower fuel economy and a higher price tag.
The 2022
Dodge Durango
has several V6 builds if you’re in the market for an SUV, while the mid-size
Dodge Challenger
coupe has a V6 in the SXT and GT builds.

How fast is the Dodge Charger V6?

The base SXT has a respectable 0 to 60 time of 6.4 seconds, but this may not sound too impressive to those with a real need for speed.
Compared to the Charger Scat Pack models—which start around $20,000 more than the base model—the SXT lags by more than 2 seconds. Still, the SXT is comparable to other large-sized 4-door sedans, including some of 2022’s most popular:
All but the Kia K5 pack V6 engines. You may have noticed the Charger SXT ranks last among these models. This is because, despite its powerful V6 engine, it’s a big, heavy car that runs comparatively quietly to other muscle cars. The cost for those comforts is a little bit of speed.
Key Takeaway The V6 engine definitely packs enough power—but the Charger is heavier than other cars in its class, so it might feel a little slow for a muscle car.

Which is better: The Charger V6 or the Challenger V6?

Both the Charger SXT and the Challenger SXT feature the same 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine—but when it comes to
horsepower and torque
, the Challenger packs a little more punch. The base model can hit a higher horsepower at 305 with 268 foot-pounds of torque.
The tradeoffs, though, are size and design. The Challenger is on the high-end of mid-size coupes, and the two-door muscle car only measures a few inches shorter than the Charger on wheelbase and length. But the Charger underwent a more recent significant redesign, while the Challenger has largely remained unchanged since it was introduced in 2008.
If price is a strong consideration for you, it’s worth checking out the Challenger, which has a significantly lower base price of $30,430.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍

Yes. You can get a Dodge Charger V6 in the
SXT
, SXT AWD,
GT
, and GT AWD.
The modestly-priced base model Charger starts at $32,500, while the most expensive V6 basic build is $38,965. If you aren’t obsessed with peak performance, the V6 is a good option that’s a little more affordable, if a little less powerful, than the V8.
All-wheel drive is only available in the V6 Charger options. The V8 builds are available in rear-wheel drive only.
