Don’t let its old-school looks fool you—the Dodge Challenger SXT packs some serious heat. The base V6 engine takes off with a 303-horsepower engine capable of going from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds.
  • The Dodge Challenger SXT and GT are the only two Dodge Challenger models with a standard V6 engine.
  • The 2022 Challenger’s V6 engine is capable of up to 303 horsepower and 268 pound-feet of torque.
  • The V6 Challenger engine, paired with rear-wheel drive, gets 19 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.

2022 Dodge Challenger SXT V6

Starting price: $32,025
Engine: 24-valve VVT V6 w/ aluminum block and heads
Horsepower: 303 hp at 6350 RPM
Torque: 268 lb-ft at 4800 RPM
0 to 60: 5.3 seconds
In its standard form, the Dodge Challenger is an obvious choice for getting the ultimate modern muscle car without paying more for the extra horsepower.
Standard highlights include a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, proximity keyless entry, eight-speed automatic transmission, and rear-wheel drive. The SXT is one of two trims with optional AWD.
Other features on the base model SXT include:
  • Six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a six-speaker stereo
Regardless of trim, the majority of the active safety features are only optional, such as adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and rear parking sensors.

How’s the fuel economy?

Equipped with the standard 3.6-liter V6 engine and rear-wheel drive, the Challenger SXT gets 19 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. If you choose to pair the engine with AWD, the fuel efficiency drops to 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.

Which Dodge Challenger models have the V6?

The Dodge Challenger SXT and GT are the only two Dodge Challenger models with a standard V6 engine. The SXT’s starting price is $32,025, while the GT starts at $35,300 without any add-ons or modifications.

How fast is the Dodge Challenger V6?

The Dodge Challenger V6 is pretty fast, but it won’t be mistaken for a sports car any time soon. That said, both the SXT and GT trims harness a 0-to-60 time of 5.3 seconds.
Even though it can’t compare to the supercharged V8s on the lineup, the Challenger still keeps up with the rest of the top-performing sports cars in its class. Here are some 0-to-60 times for other beefy sports cars:

Subaru BRZ

Which is better: Challenger SXT or GT?

Both the SXT and GT Challenger trims offer many of the same features, so it’s hard to say which is the better of the two. Both trims have the optional V6 engine, and two available appearance packages:
  • Blacktop Package: 20-inch black-painted alloy wheels, and black rear spoiler, fuel door, grille, and instrument cluster. Trim-specific badging and frog fog lamps are included as well.
  • Plus Package: 20-inch satin carbon-painted wheels and bright pedals. Stitched instrument panel and doors and ambient lighting finish off the look.
The Challenger’s Performance Handling Package is only available on the GT and offers the following features:
  • Lights Out painted wheels (a muted black color)
  • Upgraded Brembo four-wheel ABS brakes with black calipers
  • Improved high-performance suspension
  • Performance steering
  • Axle options–either 3.09 or 3.90–and anti-spin differential
Since the two trims are so similar, you really can’t go wrong with either one.
If the extra $3,000 for the GT breaks your budget, go for the cheapest option—the SXT base model. But if you want enhanced performance, tack on the Performance Handling Package to the GT for an additional $1,595.
