How to find the hidden key in your Dodge Caravan key fob

It can happen to anyone. You’re about to head to work in the morning, only to realize your car’s key fob battery is dead. Your first instinct might be to simply resign yourself to being late—but your key fob can still unlock and start your car, even without a working battery.
To unlock your Dodge Caravan with a dead key fob, here’s what you need to do:
  • Look for the small sliding latch on the top of your key fob.
  • Slide the latch to the side, and gently pull on the upper part of the fob to remove the key
  • Find the keyhole on the underside of your driver’s side door handle
  • Insert the key and turn it to the right to open the door

How to start a Dodge Caravan when your key fob battery is dead

Once you’ve entered your car, you’ll probably see a “key not detected” message appear if you try to turn on the car by pressing the start button—but don’t despair! Your vehicle can detect your key fob, which will allow you to start the ignition even when the battery is drained. All you have to do is press down on the brake with your foot and push the start button with the key fob itself (instead of your finger). Your Dodge Caravan will recognize the chip inside the key fob and start the ignition.
Don’t forget to return the key to the top of the fob for safe keeping, and head to the store for a replacement CR2032 battery.
