The Jeep Commander is a
three-row SUV
that’s capable of handling off-road stress while also providing comfort and entertainment. If you’re looking for a used Jeep with good size and performance, the Commander is a great option.The Commander was in production from 2005 to 2010. A solid overall model, the 2008 is worth considering. You’ll likely be able to find one for sale in any of the car’s three trim levels: Sport, Limited, or Overland.
The Sport is the base-level trim of the Jeep Commander and is by far the most affordable. Although highly customizable in regard to
packages and standalone features
, the Sport itself does not come with much to brag about. The Limited trim represents a serious upgrade to the Sport. Not only does the Limited feature the much more powerful 4.7-liter V8 engine standard, but it also comes with a ton of other goodies such as a sunroof, fog lamps, and an upgraded interior.
After the Limited trim, the next step up is the Overland, which comes standard with an even beefier 5.7-liter engine, plus features galore. The jump from the Limited to Overland isn’t quite as impressive as the move to the Limited from the base trim—but it won’t be as expensive, either.
Jeep Commanders also came with the option of four-wheel drive rather than
rear-wheel drive

Outside of trim options, the Jeep Commander also had packages available to outfit the SUVs with attractive features. Not every package was available for every trim, however—some trims came standard with certain features already.

It didn’t take long for backup cameras to go from a nifty novelty to a necessity for most drivers. The 2008 Commander may not come equipped with one, but they are relatively cheap and easy to install.
