If you’re moving to Arkansas from another state

If you’re moving from out of state, you have 30 days from the time you establish residency to obtain an Arkansas driver’s license and register your vehicle in the state.
To do so, you’ll need to visit an Arkansas revenue office, though you can minimize the time you spend waiting by
pre-registering online through MyDMV.
To do this, scroll down and click “Pre-Register for a DL or State ID” and provide some information. You’ll need a
number of documents
to prove your identity and status as a citizen.
You’ll be given a case number to bring to the revenue office, where you’ll have your picture taken and receive your license. If you’re under 18, there is no fee for getting a driver’s license. If you’re over 18, the fee is $40.

Other steps for an Arkansas change of address

Regardless of where you’re coming from, you’ll also need to update your mailing address with the U.S. Postal Service, which costs $1.10.
You’ll be asked whether the move is permanent or temporary and to choose a date to start receiving mail at your new address, up to three months from the date you notify the Postal Service. You’ll want to do this as soon as you can once your new address is confirmed to make sure you don’t miss any of your mail.

How to notify your insurance provider of your Arkansas change of address

Updating your address with your
car insurance
company is quick and easy. You can likely do it through your provider’s website or mobile app, or by giving them a call. Not missing this step is also very important.
The process of moving is stressful enough without getting caught lacking the proper coverage. Every state requires drivers to carry
a minimum amount of liability insurance
and where you live is factored into the cost of that coverage.
Different zip codes are associated with different levels of risk, so insurance might be more expensive in a major city compared to a rural area where fewer accidents take place.
For this reason, failing to notify your provider about your change of address could cause them to cancel your policy. Letting your
coverage lapse
could increase your rates significantly. It’s not worth the risk.

How to find affordable car insurance in Arkansas

Since your car insurance rates will likely change once you move, it’s recommended that you
shop around for car insurance
after doing so to make sure you’re getting the best price.
