The Audi Q7 has a snug third-row seating to accommodate up to 7 passengers, and with excellent safety features, it’s a good family-friendly SUV.

With 29.2 inches of legroom in the third row, the
2022 Audi Q7
isn’t as spacious as several other three-row SUVs, but with a good safety rating, a list of standard tech features, and ample cargo space, it’s a good pick for a luxury family-friendly SUV.
A two-row SUV probably won't cut it if you’re a family of six—or a family with some furry four-legged friends. And if the soccer-mom minivan-style isn’t your thing, finding a vehicle capable of transporting an entire crew plus some can be a challenge. Your solution? Three-row SUVs. They’re practical and stylish, and there are many affordable options—but they’re not all created equal.
To save you the hassle of hours of research,

What is the Audi Q7’s 3rd row like?

Audi’s largest SUVs, the Q7 and the high-performance SQ7, are equipped with three rows of seating accommodating up to seven passengers. Although the third row may not offer as much space as other three-row SUVs, it provides ample room for younger children, making it a great luxury pick for families.
The Q7’s five trim levels all come standard with power-folding third-row seating. In all five trims, the second row accommodates three passengers, while the third seat swaps out the standard bench seat for two captain’s chairs. The second-row seats offer a rare three sets of child safety seat anchors and two in the third row, allowing multiple child seat placement options

Space and comfort

When looking at the third row of seating in vehicles, there’s one question we want answers to: How comfortable is it? While having an extra row is convenient, comfort is important—if it’s uncomfortable, riders aren’t going to want to use it.
While comfort is a subjective factor, legroom, headroom, and passenger volume measurements aren’t. Here’s the spaciousness of the Audi Q7:
  • Third row: 29.2 inches of legroom, 35.9 inches of headroom, 49.4 inches of shoulder room
  • Second row: 38.8 inches of legroom, 38.8 inches of headroom, 58.5 inches of shoulder room
  • First row: 41.7 inches of legroom, 39.9 inches of headroom, 59.5 inches of shoulder room
  • Total passenger volume: N/A
Based on the numbers, the Q7’s third row is a bit snug, especially compared to its second row, which has nearly 10 inches more leg room. For children and car seats, the drop in legroom, headroom, and shoulder room may not be a big deal, but it can be tight and uncomfortable for adults trying to squeeze into the third row—especially during long car trips. Getting into the third row can also be tricky to get into due to seat mechanics; unlike the first and second row, the third row doesn’t have direct access.
If you’re looking for a more spacious third row, consider alternative SUVs like the

,
Kia Telluride
, or the

Is the Audi Q7 good for big families and long trips?

The Audi Q7’s third row of seats is spacious for small children and pets, but it’s not the best option for families with older kids or those looking to take a full car on a long road trip.
Looking at the seating measurement species, it’s clear that the Q7’s third row isn’t as spacious as other full-size SUVs. For adults and tall children, the lack of leg room can cause discomfort for anyone seated in the third row for a prolonged period. While there are SUVs with more legroom available for a lower price, the Audi Q7 still has plenty of desirable features that make it a great contender for families where the snug third row won’t cause an issue:
  • Best-in-class safety features: Although the NHTSA hasn’t rated the 2022 Audi Q7, it received a Good rating in every crashworthiness category from the IIHS. Plus, it comes with several safety assistance features like Audi pre sense®, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and more.
  • Alternative engine options: Saving on fuel with a hybrid powertrain isn’t available with the Q7, but if you’re looking for more power, it’s offered with three engines—a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo, a 3.0L V6 turbo, and a 4.0L twin-turbo V8.
  • Minivan space with SUV style: If you’re looking for maximum cargo capacity without the minivan stereotypes, the Q7 offers the perfect balance of luxury and practicality.

How to find affordable car insurance for your Audi

The Audi Q7 may not have the most spacious third row, but it does have excellent safety features and ample cargo space for kids, pets, and cargo. But while you may not be saving on fuel costs in your Q7, you can save when you insure it by getting your car insurance policy through

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
