Arkansas law makes it explicitly clear that your plate must be clearly visible and free from anything “which makes the license plate more difficult to read or which reduces the reflective properties.”
There are exceptions to this, however. Drivers are allowed to have a plate cover if it is fitted according to manufacturer specifications or installed on the following:
- Trailer hitches
- A trailer that is being towed by a motor vehicle
- Wheelchair lift or rack
- Bicycle rack

What are the fines for license plate frames in Arkansas?
According to the Arkansas Vehicle Code, if you fail to follow Arkansas’s license plate frame and cover laws, you could be subject to a fine of up to $100 for a first-time offense. Any subsequent violations could increase your fines up to $250 and warrant a possible misdemeanor charge.
