When to renew your driver’s license in Arkansas

How to renew your driver’s license in Arkansas

In most cases, you can only renew your Arkansas license in person at a revenue office. However, you may be permitted to renew your license by mail in special circumstances. 

Renew your license by mail

In Arkansas, you can only renew by mail if you’re out of the state for one of the following reasons:
  • You are studying out of state
  • You temporarily live out of state because of your employment
  • You’re currently serving in the military outside of Arkansas
  • You are temporarily overseas
If you think you qualify for mail renewal, you’ll need to call the Arkansas Driver’s License Issuance to be approved.

Renew your license in person

For Class D licenses, Arkansas drivers will need to go to their local revenue office for renewal. 
When you get there, you’ll need to:
  • Pass a vision test
  • Show a valid form of ID, if you don’t have your old driver’s license
  • Pay a renewal fee 
  • Have your photo taken

If you need to apply for a
commercial driver’s license

REAL ID license
, you’ll have different steps and fees to complete. If you want to upgrade your Class D license to a REAL ID, it will cost $10 more
