The
Lincoln Town Car
was Ford Motor Company’s answer to the
Cadillac Fleetwood
. It was a full-size luxury sedan with styling cues from the Limousine and a fuel-injected V8 engine. It was produced for model years 1981 through 2011 but remains sought-after today by car and comfort enthusiasts alike.
Throughout its tenure, the Town Car underwent a few generational redesigns and has won accolades from Forbes Magazine and MotorTrend. It was also selected as the Presidential State Car in 1989 by George H.W. Bush.
Today, a used Lincoln Town Car can bring an affordable touch of luxury to the budget-conscious shopper, and it remains a beloved relic for collectors. You can learn more about the Town Car, and whether it’s right for you, with

Is there a 2019 Lincoln Town Car?

There is no 2019 Lincoln Town Car. Ford discontinued the Town Car in 2011, but the company’s luxury line continues producing Lincolns to this day. If you’re looking for a Lincoln from the 2019 model year, there were several in the lineup that you can buy used today. These include:

What Lincoln Town Cars can you buy?

There were three generations of Town Cars produced from 1981 to 2011.

First generation: 1981-1989

If you like the classic, sharp-edged, boxy look of old-school luxury sedans, the first generation of Lincoln Town Cars is for you. They were a direct descendent of the 1970s Lincoln Continental, with almost-flat body panels, a radiator-style grille, and bold matte-black window frames. It was available as a four-door or two-door sedan with a 4.9 L V8.

Second generation: 1990-1997

This is the generation of the Presidential State Lincoln Town Car. This generation of Town Cars had a softer look, aligned with more contemporary 1990s design trends. It also introduced new safety features and some new standard technology and luxury features. A digital instrument panel and digital climate controls came standard tucked into a walnut dashboard. The 4.9 L V8 was swapped out for a 4.6 L modular single-overhead cam V8 for the 1991 model year.

Third generation: 1998-2011

In a marked design change, the third-generation Town Car took on an oval shape, completely abandoning the angular heritage it held on to from the classic Continental. The car also shrank a few inches in length and grew a couple of inches wider. The hood ornament was eliminated, but the radiator-style grille remained. It kept the 4.6 L modular V8 and underwent a few facelifts throughout the third-generation production.
If you’re looking to buy one of the latest-produced Lincoln Town Cars, here are some specs for the 2011 model year:
Starting MSRP: $53,840
KBB estimated used price: $7,661-$11,020
Engine type: 4.6 L modular SOHC V8, 239 hp at 4,900 rpm
Fuel economy: 19 mpg combined/16 mpg city/24 mpg highway
Seating capacity: Six passengers
Trim levels: Signature Limited, Signature L

Where to buy a Lincoln Town Car

You can find Lincoln Town Cars for sale from local dealers or even private party marketplaces, but availability might be limited depending on the year you want. There are lots of buyers who want the affordable, but somewhat modern, luxury of the 2011 model year. Others are loyalists to the first generation of Town Cars and will race to scoop up a 1989 model.
If you’re looking for a later model, a couple of good options to check out are
Carfax
and
Carvana
. These companies can give you the specific vehicle’s history, odometer reading, and features. They’ll also help calculate your estimated monthly payment if you plan to finance.

The bottom line: should I buy a Lincoln Town Car?

With a
RepairPal
reliability rating of 4/5 and a reputation for longevity, the Lincoln Town Car might be a good choice if you’re looking for a premium-feeling luxury ride that costs less than today’s executive lineup.
The Town Car is spacious and comfortable. Its body-on-frame build gave it a smooth ride, even in the back seat. Across its three generations, there are a variety of trims to pick from. Whether you’re looking for luxury on the low-end of the budget, or you want the poshest and plushest model you can find, there’s probably a Town Car for sale out there for you.
Besides all that, it’s kind of an American icon. It’s a beautiful behemoth of a vehicle with a powerful engine—making the entire package a head-turner, no matter what model year you go with. Finally, because its production was still relatively recent, aftermarket parts and modifications are easy to come by, and they won’t cost you an arm and a leg.
