Volvo XC60 Tire Pressure

Depending on the trim, a Volvo XC60 requires between 35 and 42 psi in each tire for optimal performance.

Most Volvo XC60 variants call for 35 psi in all four tires, but the added weight from battery packs in Recharge and Polestar trims ups that number to 38 psi.
Checking your tire pressure is a simple process, and skipping it can have disastrous and costly results. Properly inflated tires help ensure you get the best gas mileage possible, and they also help you steer more precisely and avoid dangerous blowouts.

What is the right tire pressure for a Volvo XC60?

The recommended tire pressure for most Volvo XC60 models is 35 psi for both the front and rear tires. However, Recharge and Polestar variants usually require 38 psi for all four tires.
If you want to double-check to see how much pressure you should be putting in your XC60’s OEM or stock-sized tires, you can look in your owner’s manual or on the sticker inside your driver’s side door frame. The number is usually provided on the tire itself as well.
Be sure to double-check your new setup specs if you’ve swapped out your XC60s tires for anything other than what the manufacturer originally supplied.

How to check Volvo XC60 tire pressure

Many newer and upper-trim-level XC60s allow you to view your Volvo’s tire pressure on the car’s center monitor, but if your car isn’t equipped with this high-tech feature, don’t worry. Checking tire pressure is quick and easy—just grab
a tire pressure gauge
, and follow these steps:
  • Remove the valve stem cap.
  • Place the tire gauge over the valve stem and push. You’ll likely hear a small hiss of air
  • On manual gauges, your tire’s pressure will be indicated by an arrow pointing to a number on a dial or by a bar protruding from the end of the gauge. Digital gauges provide a simple readout.
  • Repeat this process for each tire and add or remove air as needed.
Even if your XC60 doesn’t have a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), it can still alert you to low tire pressure. If your fuel efficiency isn’t as good as usual, your steering is off, or your car’s ride feels uneven, you may have low pressure in one or multiple tires.

How often should you check tire pressure?

Checking tire pressure should be part of your monthly
basic car maintenance schedule

How to tell if your Volvo XC60 needs new tires

In general, you should expect to outfit your ride with new tires about every six years, but your driving style and the roads you travel will play a big part in this estimate.
Like checking your tire pressure, keeping an eye on your tires’ wear is an important part of vehicle maintenance. Here are a few things to keep an eye on, so you’ll know when it’s time for a new set of tires:
  • Check tread depth: Take a US penny and stick it in Lincoln’s-head-first. If you can see the top of Abe’s head, you need new tires.
  • Check for damage: Look for cracks and bulges.
  • Check for punctures: These often lead to slow leaks, so if you notice you’re having to top off your tire pressure more often than usual, you may have a small puncture.

How to reset the Volvo XC60 tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) light

New car technology is great—until it isn’t. Occasionally, drivers have experienced their tire warning lights remaining on even after they’ve inflated their tires or gotten a new set of tires. But don’t worry,
resetting your TPMS
and getting it calibrated to your properly inflated tires is a simple process.
Start with your car in park, then follow these steps:
  • Start the engine
  • Select the menu system MY CAR to open the menus for tire pressure
  • Select Calibrate Tire Pressure, and press OK
  • Drive for at least 10 minutes at a speed of at least 20 mph.
You won’t see a confirmation message, but rest assured your system is calibrated after this 10 minutes cruise. If you continue to experience issues with your TPMS, though, it’s time to head to your nearest Volvo dealer or your trusted local mechanic.
