The Toyota Tundra has remained a staple among classic American pick-up trucks for over two decades. Originally thought to be too small to compete in its segment, the Tundra’s twenty-year transformation from the underdog to a pick-up classic has solidified its reputation in the trucking world.
The latest Toyota Tundra lives up to this legacy with enhanced performance and comfort, alongside some new, additional features, like an optional hybrid battery.
No matter the Tundra you drive, battery maintenance can be key to preserving the comfort and quality that Tundra trucks are known for. Here to break down all the specs on the Toyota Tundra’s battery is

How big is a Toyota Tundra battery?

The battery size for a Toyota Tundra varies by model year, and sometimes also by vehicle trim level
In the 2022 Toyota Tundra, an optional hybrid battery can replace the traditional battery used in earlier models. Available since 2021, the i-Force Max hybrid battery has become a customer-optional alternative to standard batteries.
With a capacity of 1.87 kWh, the hybrid battery is small but efficient—especially in combination with the electric motor, which can produce 48 Horsepower and up to 184 lb-ft of Torque by itself. But transitioning to primarily electric power is not the Tundra’s top priority—and many modern trucks still retain the more traditional absorbent glass mat (AGM) battery
As far as lead-acid batteries go, Tundras are most commonly equipped with a 24F, 27F, 34R, or 35 group battery size
In hybrid models, the nickel-metal hybrid battery is housed beneath the truck’s rear seat cushions—but in non-hybrid models, you’ll find the battery located under the hood.

Battery groups, explained

The Battery Council International, or BCI, is the association responsible for creating the grouping system by which car batteries are categorized. Different groups encompass batteries with similar characteristics, including battery type, dimensions, terminal design, and power rating
Batteries with a flat or reversed terminal layout will typically be displayed as a number followed by a letter—such as “F” or “R”—to represent this change. A 24F battery, for example, indicates a flat terminal layout on a group 24 battery.
The correct battery size for your vehicle will depend on its make, model, and sometimes also the vehicle’s age and trim level. In most Toyotas, you’ll find a battery group size of 24F, 27F, or 35—although many Tundra trucks take a 34R group battery

How does the Toyota Tundra’s battery measure up to the competition?
