The battery size for a
Tesla Model 3
ranges from 50 kWh to 82 kWh, depending on the model year and trim choice.
  • The maximum driving range on the 2023 Tesla Model 3 is 358 miles thanks to an 82 kWh battery powering dual electric motors in the Long Range trim.
  • Tesla’s partner company Panasonic recently started producing new LFP batteries  out of Tesla’s Gigafactories for improved energy density at a cheaper price.
  • Tesla batteries are some of the best in the industry, setting the Model 3 ahead of its electric car competitors when it comes to range and performance.

Tesla Model 3 battery size, range, and charging specs

The battery size for a brand-new 2023 Tesla Model 3 is either 50 kWh or 82 kWh, depending on the trim level:
  • Single-motor Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) base trim: 50-kWh battery for 272-mile driving range; 8.5-hr charging time at 220V/240V
  • Dual-motor all-wheel Drive (AWD) Performance trim:  82-kWh battery for 315-mile driving range; 10-hr charging time at 220V/240V
  • Dual-motor AWD Long Range trim:  82-kWh battery for 358-mile driving range; 10-hr charging time at 220V/240V
New battery cell technology: Tesla recently started using new lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs in the Model 3, allowing for higher energy density than a standard lithium-ion battery. This translates to a top speed of 162 mph on the Model 3 Performance trim!

Expert analysis: As
electric trucks
like the Ford F-150 Lightning continue to hit the market, their battery sizes will continue to blow the Model 3’s out of the water. However, an electric truck’s battery is built for sheer power, while the Model 3’s battery is built for economical range and performance.
