The tire pressure on a Subaru Ascent should be between 32 and 36 pounds per square inch (PSI) for the front and rear tires.
To drive safely, you’ll need to maintain the correct air pressure in your car’s tires. If your tires’ air pressure is off, it can hurt your fuel efficiency, make it more difficult to steer, and raise the risk of a blowout—all things that can cause major headaches and bills.

What is the right tire pressure for a Subaru Ascent?

Generally speaking, the tires on your Subaru Ascent need to be between 32 and 36 psi for both front and rear tires. You can double-check this information in your owner’s manual or the sticker on the inside of the driver’s side door frame.
If you opt for performance tires instead of standard tires, your psi needs might change. For example, if you buy off-road tires for your Subaru Ascent to do a little trail running, your tires should be inflated to 15 to 20 psi for optimal performance. The tire manufacturer or shop will have more detailed information about your performance tires’ ideal psi.
Seasonal tires, such as winter or summer tires, also have unique psi needs. Whatever tire you end up putting on your Subaru Ascent, double-check the tire pressure specifications for your new tires.

How to check Subaru Ascent tire pressure

If you’re not sure how to find your tire pressure, your Subaru’s menu might be able to help. The tire pressure monitor (TPM) is available on most Subaru models from 2018 or newer. This system will alert you with a low tire pressure light if one or more of your tires needs more air.
You can cycle to this system by using the arrows at the bottom left of your steering wheel. When you get to the TPM screen, you’ll see a picture of your vehicle with the tire pressure of each tire. This helps you see which tire needs adjusting.
If your Subaru doesn’t feature this technology, or your car’s computer is having issues, you can check your tire pressure by removing the valve stem cap on each tire and pressing a
tire pressure gauge
onto the valve stem. You can do this at home, or you can go to a gas station’s air-filling station, which usually has a tire pressure gauge available for use.
If your tire pressure is really off, your vehicle will let you know in other ways. If you’re experiencing decreased performance, an uneven ride, or even wonky steering, the problem could be your tire pressure. Always double-check if you’re in doubt!

How often should you check tire pressure?

You should check your tire pressure frequently, like once a month, or before you head off on a major trip.

How to tell if your Subaru Ascent needs new tires

You should change your Subaru Ascent’s tires once every six years on average, but you should also build the habit of checking for signs of wear when you check the tire pressure. Watch out for low tread depth or cracks and bulges in the tire—this means it’s time for a new one.
You can easily check the tread depth by using the penny method—grab a US penny and insert it head-first into the tire tread. It’s time for new tires if you can see the top of Lincoln’s head.

How to reset the Subaru Ascent tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) light

Sometimes the TPMS gets a little overzealous, which results in a tire pressure warning light that won’t turn off. If you’ve checked your psi, adjusted the tire pressure, and are still getting the dashboard warning, it’s time to
reset your TPMS
.
First, you’ll need to engage your Subaru’s ignition without turning it on. This activates the TPMS. Then find the TPMS reset button—it’s a small, red, circular button located below the TPMS icon.
Release the button and wait for the light to stop blinking. When it stops blinking, that means the reset was successful. If this light won’t turn off, there could be an issue with your TPMS that needs the attention of a mechanic. You can take your vehicle to the nearest service center at your Subaru dealership, or to your favorite local garage.
