How does Ram Roadside Assistance work?

Chrysler/Ram Roadside Assistance—which falls under the Mopar division of Chrysler—will come to your assistance 24/7 in the United States or Canada.
Ram recommends that you download the Mopar app so that you have access to Roadside Assistance and other important information at your fingertips.
Standard Roadside Assistance is provided for free with a new vehicle and the length of coverage is as follows:
Models 2017 and newer:
  • 5 years/60,000 miles for gas engines
  • 5 years/1000,000 miles for diesel engines
Models 2013-2016:
  • 5 years/100,000 miles for all engines
Services offered by Chrysler/Ram Standard Roadside Assistance:
  • Towing to the nearest Ram dealer
  • Help if you are locked out of your truck
  • Gas delivery if you run out of gas (up to twice a year)
  • Flat tire changes
  • Jump starts
There are some exclusions to the above services. For instance, always call Roadside Assistance before calling for a tow truck yourself—Roadside Assistance may not cover an unauthorized/unlicensed towing service.
Also, if you have altered the odometer reading on your vehicle, Ram Roadside Assistance will not provide services.
Finally, your truck will not be towed to a dealership for routine maintenance through this program, and the lockout service does not cover the cost of replacement keys.

Chrysler/Ram’s Mopar Extended Warranty or Maxcare Warranty

If you purchase an extended warranty for your vehicle, you can take advantage of the following additional services:
  • $1,000 Trip Interruption Coverage to pay for hotel stays if you must wait for your truck to be repaired while you are traveling (you must be more than 100 miles from home)
  • $35 for first day car rental or taxi reimbursement while your vehicle is being repaired
  • Free key fob replacement (up to six times over the life of the warranty)

How to use Ram roadside assistance

If you break down on the side of a road or are stranded in a parking lot, your Ram Roadside Assistance is available 24/7 to assist you. Collect the information you will need (i.e., your VIN) then call the appropriate number listed below.
Remember, if you have Chrysler/Ram Roadside Assistance, call them first instead of a tow truck.

Be prepared to share the following information with the operator:
  • The plate number
  • Owner information
  • Where you are located (include cross street names if applicable)
  • The mileage on your odometer
  • A brief description of the problem you are having
If you are in an accident, follow these steps before calling roadside assistance:
  • Look around the environment. Be aware of the vehicles around you and move your truck out of traffic if you can.
  • Check for injuries on yourself and your passengers and call 911 if there are injuries.
  • If another driver is involved, call the police so that you can file a police report. You will need this for your insurance claim.
  • Document any damage that you see to your truck by taking photographs.

What if my Ram warranty expired?

Unless you have purchased a lifetime warranty, your new vehicle warranty will expire at the 5-year/100,000-mile mark or the 5-year/60,000-mark, depending on your type of engine.
As long as your truck is less than 10 years old, you can buy an extended warranty that will come with additional Roadside Assistance services like Key Fob Replacement and Trip Interruption coverage.
Key Takeaway You will not be able to buy Chrysler/Ram Roadside Assistance as a stand-alone service. It comes as part of your factory or extended warranty.

Is Ram Roadside Assistance worth it?

The Ram Roadside Assistance package is a great free resource.
If your factory warranty has expired and you’ll need to purchase an extended warranty to reactivate Roadside Assistance, you may want to seek out a different option.
However, if you want to protect the mechanical components of your truck and take advantage of roadside assistance, the extended warranty may be the way to go.

Alternatives to Ram Roadside Assistance

If your truck is aging out of its factory warranty and you decide you don’t want to pay for an extended warranty just to get Roadside Assistance, here are some alternatives:
  • Car insurance companies. Many insurers offer Roadside Assistance as a relatively inexpensive add-on to their policies. Call your insurer to see what level of Roadside Assistance you qualify for.
  • Auto clubs. The Automobile Association of America (AAA) is perhaps the best known, but there are other automobile organizations that also offer Roadside Assistance plans as well.
  • Your employer or union. Larger employers or unions may offer inexpensive Roadside Assistance services. Talk to someone in your benefits office to find out.

An extended warranty is primarily designed to cover repairs to your engine and other parts of your truck. Only purchase an extended warranty if you want that extra peace of mind, knowing that the key mechanical components in your truck are protected.
