Need to replace one of your Pontiac’s wheels? You’ll first need to know its lug pattern. Pontiacs always have five lug holes, but the diameter can measure anywhere between 3.97 inches to 4.75 inches.
With car knowledge, it seems like every measurement and part number are “the most important ones.” That said, it’s pretty handy to know your Pontiac’s lug pattern. When it comes time to swap out one of its rims, you’ll need the lug pattern on hand to buy the correct size.
If you’ve never even heard of lug patterns, you’ve come to the right place.

Why you should know your Pontiac’s lug pattern

The lug pattern can sometimes also be called a bolt pattern. But, no matter what you call it, all it refers to is the number of lug holes on your Pontiac’s wheel. It’s written as two numbers: the first is the number of lug holes, and the second refers to the diameter of the imaginary circle formed by those holes. It may sound complex, but that second number is just a way to measure how spread out the lug holes are.
It marks more sense with an example. If your Pontiac has a bolt pattern of 5x4.75, it has five lugs arranged in a 4.75-inch circle.

Lug pattern terminology 101

We just threw a ton of information at you, so don’t worry if it hasn’t all clicked yet! We promise that wheel sizes are pretty straightforward once you're familiar with a couple of key terms. First, let us take a better look at what the table above means.
OEM wheel size: OEM stands for “Original Equipment Manufacturer,” so this number refers to the standard diameter of your Pontiac’s wheel.
Lug pattern: Just like what we discussed above, the lug pattern (also known as a bolt pattern) is the number of lug holes and the diameter of the circle they form.
Offset: This is the distance from the wheel's mounting surface to the center of the rim. A positive offset indicates that the wheels are pulled closer to the car, while a negative one means that they stick out more.
Stud size: You can express the stud size in two different ways. In the US, it’s written as stud diameter x threads per inch(e.g., 1/2x20). But, in the metric system, it’s written as stud diameter x distance between threads (e.g., 14mm x 1.50). Most automakers based outside the US favor the latter system.
Center bore: This is the opening that centers the wheel on the hub.

How to measure your Pontiac’s lug pattern

Didn’t spot your Pontiac in the table above? As long as you have a ruler or some measuring tape on hand, it will only take a minute for you to measure your lug pattern yourself.
To begin, count the lug holes. For Pontiacs, there should always be five of these
Next, you’ll need to determine the diameter of the lug pattern. Start at the outer edge of any lug hole and measure directly across the circle. With an odd-numbered pattern, you’ll end up between lugs, so move the end of your ruler or tape measure to the closest lug on either side and measure to the center of the lug hole.
If you counted five lug holes and measured a diameter of 4.75 inches, your Pontiac’s lug pattern is 5x4.75, or 5 on 4.75.
Pro tip: Sometimes, the diameter (the second number of the lug pattern) is written in millimeters instead of inches.
