Nissan Rogue climate control reset instructions

If the temperature in your Nissan Rogue is starting to be a bit unpredictable, you may have an electrical problem with your climate control.
You may resolve the issue with a simple climate control reset by disconnecting the A/C fuse for about 10 seconds and then putting it back in. Easy, right?
Unlike other makes, Nissan has its fuse box hidden, and then the fuse for the A/C is actually in a secret compartment. But don’t worry—it can be done!
Step 1: Turn the car off. Any time you work with your vehicle's electrical components, you do not want the power running through the car. Turn off everything that uses electricity first, then turn the engine off.
Step 2:Locate the fuse box under the hood. The fuse box is under the hood, on the driver’s side of the car. Don’t see it? That’s because it’s also under a long air duct
Carefully remove the three black pins first, then move the air duct out of the way. The fuse box is the black box underneath. If you don’t see it, check your owner’s manual for the location and picture of the fuse box.
Step 3: Find and remove the HVAC fuse. To open the fuse box, push the tabs and lift the lid. Here you will see some fuses. However, look to the right and push the prongs on the other black box, then the A/C compressor fuse is hidden in the lid of that box.
Step 4: Pull the fuse out, wait 10 seconds, then reconnect it. Fuses are delicate, so be careful upon inspection. If the fuse seems in good condition, put it back in. If it looks burnt, it has blown, and you will need a new one. The good news is it will only cost around $5 for a 10 AMP mini fuse
Step 5: Start the car—but don’t touch anything! Once the fuse is reinstalled, get back in the Rouge and start it up. Let the car run for a few minutes to give the system time to reset.
Now, your climate control should be in working order. However, if the temperature and airflow aren’t stable, you will need to do more troubleshooting.

Other reasons your Nissan Rogue A/C isn’t working

Aside from a blown air compressor fuse, there are several other reasons your Rouge’s A/C may not perform at its best. Here are the five most common causes of failing climate control.

Low refrigerant

A vehicle goes through about 15% of its refrigerant per year. Pair that with small leaks and a lack of a
basic maintenance schedule
, and it can get low enough to impact air condition performance. Topping off the coolant may be all that is needed.

Compression failure

A malfunctioning A/C clutch or cycling switch cannot move air through the system. For about $15, a device called a voltmeter can help you out.
First, turn on your Rouge and set the air conditioning to full blast. If you hear a steady clicking sound, your A/C clutch is working. Then use the voltmeter to check for voltage. You may have a faulty
AC cycling switch
if there isn’t a voltage reading. This will cost a little under $300 to repair.

Condenser failure

If your Nissan is overheating or only blows hot air, it could be a condenser malfunction. This could happen for several reasons, such as leaks in the cooling system, a broken
AC condenser fan
, or particles from the compressor stopping the flow of the refrigerant.
This type of repair is beyond your standard DIY repair and will cost between $620 and $725 to replace.

Leaky evaporator core

A leak in the evaporator core is easy to stop! Check under your car for the telltale signs of green refrigerant pooling beneath your car when it is parked.
This happens over time and needs to be replaced by a professional mechanic. Expect to pay around $1,300 for a new part and labor.

Clogged A/C lines

The whole climate control system is impacted if the airflow gets blocked at any point in your air conditioning unit. If you hear sloshing water or have damp floorboards, it's time to clean your A/C lines
To have this done professionally costs about $300. However, if you can locate your Rogue’s A/C airline and have an air compressor with a nozzle, it is possible to do it yourself.

How to diagnose a Nissan Rogue climate control malfunction

Those are a few common causes of climate control failure, but many other potential culprits exist. When your Rogue malfunctions, it should throw an error or trouble code.
For between $40-$100, you can buy an on-board diagnostics (OBD) scan tool that can interpret
read your car's OBD code
and clue you into what is going on with your air conditioner.
If you prefer a professional to handle it, make sure any mechanic you select has the proper training and certification in HVAC repairs since working with A/C refrigerant requires unique expertise.

How to keep Nissan Rogue insurance costs low

The Nissan Rogue has an annual cost of repairs of around $467, which is $185 lower than the average vehicle.
