Every new
Mazda
is covered by a New Vehicle Limited Warranty for up to three years or 36,000 miles—whichever comes first. If the car battery in your Mazda is defective and stops working during that time, your dealer will replace your battery at no cost to you.
What’s great about Mazda’s standard warranty plan is that the protections don’t stop there—you can still receive a partial refund for your battery even after the New Vehicle Limited Warranty expires.

What’s the warranty on a Mazda battery?

Mazda offers a broad warranty to every new car sold that covers the price of defects for the first three years or 36,000 miles of the car’s life. Included in this coverage is your battery. If you think that your battery is defective, make sure to bring it to your dealer before the warranty expires.
You may even get some money back after the New Vehicle Limited Warranty has passed. If you notice an issue between 37-48 months after you first bought your car, you will only need to pay 70% of the MSRP cost of the battery if you get it replaced by your dealer. If it is between 49-60 months, you will only pay 80%.
Mazda owners can expect their car battery to last from two to five years, though the majority of the batteries tend to have a lifespan on the longer end of that range.
Note: This warranty only covers the battery due to defects or normal wear and tear. It does not cover things like damage due to accidents, improper usage, theft, or fire.

Signs your Mazda battery needs to be replaced

There are various symptoms that can indicate a faulty battery. Here are a few things to look out for:
  • The car won’t start: We’ve all been there, and it’s never a pleasant experience. While you may be able to
    jump-start
your car temporarily, it’s smart to have a professional mechanic run a diagnostic check for problems if your car just won’t start on its own.
  • Battery warning light: Your Mazda constantly monitors its electrical systems. If it senses that there is a problem with your battery, a warning light will appear on your dashboard.
  • Car struggles to start: This is a common sign that your battery is at the end of its life. Starting the engine is when the battery is most strained, so if it struggles to deliver during this time it may mean that it is low on power.
  • Dim headlights: Headlights need electricity to operate, and they’ll dim if they do not receive the necessary current. If you notice that your headlights aren’t as bright as normal, this could be a sign that your battery is running out.
  • Swollen battery: A battery is basically just a complex chemical reaction inside of a robust box. Sometimes, this reaction goes awry and begins to eat away at the box. If you notice that your battery is deformed, immediately stop using the car as your battery could potentially spill dangerous chemicals into your vehicle.

How to extend the lifespan of a Mazda battery

The best way to maintain your battery and keep your car performing optimally is to follow the maintenance schedule outlined by your manufacturer. Here are a few other tips and tricks to squeeze as much life out of your battery as possible:
  • Test your battery. The best time to catch a problem is before it becomes a problem. You can test your battery with a car battery tester available for purchase online and at most auto shops.
  • Make sure your battery is properly installed. A loose battery can wreak havoc on your car's electrical systems. It’s a good idea to make sure that your battery is secured and the connections are tight on the terminals.
  • Turn off all lights before exiting the car: Make sure your headlights and interior lights are turned off before you leave the car. Running lights will drain your battery while you are gone.
  • Avoid frequent short trips. Starting up your car is when the battery works the hardest. Therefore, frequent short trips are much more taxing on your car’s battery than continuous long drives.
  • Scrub your battery terminals. Rust can build up on your battery terminals over time—if you notice that they are corroded, make sure to clean them. Try using a toothbrush dipped in baking soda.
