So how do you know if it’s time to change your oil? Lexus recommends changing your oil every 10,000 miles. However, that benchmark is merely a suggestion.

Ensure you have a socket wrench, a drain pan, and a filter wrench designed to remove the old oil filter on hand. Don’t forget your 9 quarts of 0W-20 engine oil!

Follow these steps to change your Lexus GX 460 oil and filter:

Let your engine run until it reaches a normal operating temperature (roughly 5 minutes)

Turn off your engine, open the hood, and locate your oil reservoir

Remove the oil fill cap, along with the oil drain bolt and washer

Drain the old oil into the drain pain

As the oil drains, remove the old oil filter

Install the new filter

With a new washer, replace the oil drain bolt and tighten it to 29 lb-ft

Refill the engine with 8.2 quarts of new oil and replace the fill cap
