Where can I find my Hyundai’s paint code?

You can find the paint code of your Hyundai on the door jamb label on the driver’s side. If it is not located there, it may be hidden somewhere in the engine compartment. Hyundai color codes are typically formatted as a number and a letter or two letters, but some later Hyundai models use a three-character code instead.

What if there’s no paint code on the car’s label?

If you have an older Hyundai model, you might need to look up the paint code using the vehicle identification number (VIN). You can’t miss it—it’s a string of 17 letters and numbers.
Here is where you can find your
Hyundai VIN
:
  • On the driver’s side door jam (or sometimes the passenger side)
  • Under the windshield on the driver’s side
  • On the trunk
  • Near the firewall of the car
  • Your car’s title document and registration
Once you have the VIN, you can call your car dealership and they should be able to tell you your paint code.

Where can I get paint for my Hyundai?

Now that you have the paint code, you can order your paint! You can order directly from
Hyundai’s website
, or look for in-store or online options for touch-up packages. You have plenty of options as long as you have your vehicle’s paint code!

Paint touch-up tips

Now for the fun part—your paint arrived and you’re ready to make that pesky scratch disappear! Here are some painting tips to make your touch up go smoothly:
  • Wash the damaged spot with water and soap
  • If there is any rust, use a wire brush or fine sandpaper to gently buff it away
  • Apply primer to any bare plastic or metal you’ll be painting and let it dry overnight. Once it has dried, gently sand it to create an even surface.
  • Paint the area with the color that matches the rest of your car. Add several coats, allowing at least 20 minutes in between each coat. Let the last coat of paint dry overnight.
  • Add a clear protective coat using the same painting method as before. Apply several layers of the clear coat and let it dry overnight.
  • Buff the area with a rubbing compound after three days to make the paint shine!
Pro Tip Depending on how serious the damage to your Hyundai’s paint job is, you might be able to buy a paint pen or small paint pack instead of a full-sized paint can.
