Honda HRC216 engine oil capacity

The first thing you need to know is how much oil your HRC216 actually needs.
The
Honda
HRC216 has an engine oil capacity of 0.69 quarts or around 0.65 liters. Most oil for small engines is sold in 1-quart containers, so that will be plenty for one oil change.

What kind of oil does a Honda HRC216 need?

Before you go to the store and grab the first oil you see, you’ll want to make sure it’s the right type for your HRC216. For the best results, make sure you get a premium grade 10W-30 oil that’s specifically made for small engines.
Honda recommends a full synthetic oil for the HRC216. It might be a little more expensive, but it will be better for your engine in the long run. Since your mower sometimes has to cut through wet or tall grass, deal with dirt or rough terrain, and even high summer temperatures, synthetic oil will do a much better job of protecting your engine from debris and sludge that will gunk it up.
If you’re not sure what type of oil is best, here are some recommendations:

How often to change oil on a Honda HRC216

For vehicles, you generally know when to get an oil change because you track how many miles you’ve driven since your last change. But what about a lawnmower? It’s not exactly like you can track how many miles you’ve pushed it around. So just how often does your HRC216 need an oil change?
Honda recommends changing the oil in your HRC216 every 50 hours of use. If you have a small yard, it might be quite a while before you hit 50 hours. In this case, you’ll want to change your oil before the start of the mowing season—especially if your mower has been sitting all winter.
However, the best way to keep track of when your lawnmower needs new oil is by checking it regularly with your dipstick. If the oil level is low, or if the oil is dirty, gritty, or dark in color, it’s time for a change.

How to change your oil

If your HRC216 needs an oil change, grab a drain pan and your new engine oil.
First, you'll want to start your lawnmower and let it run for five to fifteen minutes. This will warm the oil up and make it easier to drain. Once the mower has warmed up, shut it off and follow these steps:
  • Disconnect the spark plug wire and make sure it stays out of the way
  • Empty the fuel tank or seal it off with plastic and replace the cap to prevent leaks
  • Locate the drain plug. It’s usually under the mower deck. Clean off any dirt or grass clippings
  • Remove the drain plug and let the old oil drain into a pan
  • Clean and reinstall the drain plug
  • Refill your engine oil reservoir with new oil
  • Reconnect the spark plug and run the mower for a few minutes to watch for leaks
When you’re done, make sure you dispose of your old engine oil responsibly. Pour it into a sealed container and take it to a recycling facility. Don’t dump it on the ground or throw it in the trash!
