Windshield wipers are an essential component in your truck. They’re so fundamental and low-maintenance that it can be easy to take them for granted—until one stops working properly. If you’ve ever been caught in a rain storm without a functioning wiper, then you know just how important it is to keep your wipers and wiper blades properly maintained.
Fortunately, wiper blades are very easy to maintain and replace. If you’ve never had to replace yours before (or if you're just not sure which type of replacement blade to buy), then you’re in the right place!

The best windshield wipers for a Ford F150

Eventually, all windshield wiper blades wear down and become ineffective. When that happens, they won’t whisk water away from the windshield properly, and your vision while driving could be impaired—that’s how you know it’s time for new blades.
When you head to a nearby auto parts store, though, you might be overwhelmed by the numerous types, sizes, and brands of blades sitting on the shelves. Which blades should you buy for your Ford F150?
Of course, the most perfect Ford F150 windshield wiper blades are going to be the same type of original Ford blades that came installed when the truck was new—you can purchase those online at the
Ford auto parts website
If you’d rather not wait for those specific blades to arrive in the mail, however, don’t worry—there are plenty of aftermarket wiper blades that will work just fine. Here are the three good options:
Any of those three options should work wonderfully for your F150. You can use the links above to purchase them online, or you can find them at pretty much any auto parts store.
Before you rush off to pick them up, however, there’s one more piece of information you’ll absolutely need. Besides the brand and model of the blades, you also need to make sure you’re buying the right size
For the most part, Ford F150 windshield wipers are 22 inches long—but there is some slight variation depending on which year your Ford was manufactured. To make things simpler for you, we’ve compiled a complete list of windshield wiper sizes on every iteration of the F150 since 2004. Take a look at the table below to figure out which size blade you’ll be needing.

How to replace Ford F150 windshield wipers

Most mechanics will advise that you
replace your windshield wiper
blades every 6-12 months, depending on how often you drive and the weather conditions where you live. If you live somewhere warm and sunny without much rain or snow, for instance, you won’t need to replace your blades nearly as often.
Wherever you live, it will be pretty obvious when it’s time to replace your wiper blades. As the rubber wears out, it will begin to break apart and tear off. You might notice chunks missing or even a weird rubbing noise as the degraded rubber pulls across the glass.
Of course, the most obvious clue will be that the blades won’t be whisking water away from your field of vision—there may be streaks or just large amounts of water left behind after each pass-over of the windshield wipers.
When the time does come for new blades, just follow the steps below

How to put Ford F150 windshield wipers in service position

The first thing you have to do is put your windshield wipers in service mode. Here’s what you’ll need to do:
  • Park your F150 and engage the parking brake.
  • Turn the key so that the truck is on but the engine is off.
  • Turn on the windshield wipers.
  • When the wipers are up in the vertical position, turn the key all the way to the left to shut your Ford off completely—the wiper arms should remain in the up position, which will allow you to reach them.
  • Taking care not to jerk or bend the arms, gently pull them up and away from the windshield. There is a hinge at the bottom that should allow the arms to pull away and remain in positions, pointing out away from the truck—this is what is called the “service position.”
The arms don’t actually lock into the service position, but they are designed to sit in place so that you can work on them. With the windshield wiper arms in the service position, you’re ready to remove and replace the blades!

How to replace Ford F150 wiper blades

The wiper arms are usually either plastic or metal, and the blade is a rubber sleeve that slides into the arm along grooves. It shouldn’t take more than a few minutes to replace all the blades—just follow these steps:
  • At the base of the wiper arm, you should see a locking pin or tab.
  • Squeeze the tab to release the old blade.
  • Then, slide the blade up and off along the wiper arm.
  • Take the new wiper blade and slide it down and in along the grooves in the arm until it reaches the locking pin/tab.
  • When you hear the tab click, you’ll know that the blade is secured in place.
  • Repeat the process for all the blades that are worn out or damaged.
And that’s it! Quick and painless, right? Now that you know how to do it, you’ll be able to replace the windshield wiper blades on your Ford whenever new ones are needed.
You may even want to purchase an extra set of blades and keep them in your truck—in case, you ever need to change them on the go.
